I am about to start a Carb swap and I have done a ton of research on here about it, but one thing that there's a huge variance on is the cables/ brackets needed. Some say use Carb cables, some say tbi cables, some say you can use tpi cables with the right stuff. My understanding is at a minimum I need a geometry corrector for the trans and a mounting bracket. The tech article here is awesome but on this subject the direct quote is that your on your own.
Questions:
1. I've read that with the CSR bracket pushed all the way back, I can use the factory tpi throttle and TV cable...true? (Please be true!!!)
2. If not true, is there a clear list of brackets to get that wasn't written in 2002? All I have found is either completely out of date w. Out of production parts or so generic that it's impossible to figure out what they are actually referencing to...I.e. "Use the Holley bracket" and there's only about 15 to choose from when I look them up.
3. My Carb choice is flexible, I'd like Holley but the brackets and stuff seem like the most confusing part of this swap so if you have a combo that works please share!

When I swapped my V6 to a carbed V8, my throttle cable was too long. I managed to find a carb throttle cable at a local junkyard that fit. I can't remember if it was from a thirdgen, but I think it was. That was back in 2009 though. For the bracket, I used one from an old carbed caprice till I decided to trim some excess pieces from it last winter and cut too much off. I too looked all over the interwebs but couldn't find one I was sure would fit. One day I was walking the aisles at the local Autozone looking for something for my S10 and found a bracket made by Spectre. It fits perfectly on my Holley and has the provision for TV cable, although my car is a stick so I didn't use it. It's a universal kit, so it has some adjustability built into it. I don't remember the part number, but it was in the aisle with the dress up kits and performance intakes.
Im using a TBI cable on my carb. The lenght is fine. THe attachment method you'll have to work out, but it's not hard. I just use a stud and some nuts.
Interesting...any idea if this would be the tci set up to go with? Looks right, any idea if I can use stock tpi throttle cable with this tci unit? Trying to get at least a big chunk of my parts ordered at the same time and I despise dealing with returns thru anywhere.
I used the CSR bracket with my stock TPI throttle cable and TV cable. It took a little effort to make the TV cable work with the CSR bracket, but not too bad. I used the TCI geometry corrector also.

If going with a holley carb you need the following part numbers
20-95
20-121
Those two brackets are all you need. It's what Im running on my 305 with a holley. It is actually stated in the holley installation instructions for ANY GM with a 700r4, you MUST use 20-121 for a TV cable geometry corrector. I must say that after I got both brackets it was a simple and pain free installation and worked perfect
Also, your actual throttle cable, AND TV cable itself will be fine. Once you get the throttle cable bracket (20-95) and TV cable bracket (20-121) you will see that both snap right in and all else will be adjustable as far as length goes.
I tried the Holley bracket. It works, but it is a flimsy piece of junk. The CSR is much nicer and worth every cent over the holley bracket. The only bracket I have ever messed with that is worse than the Holley is the Mr. Gasket.

So you were able to use stock tpi throttle cable and tpi tv cable with no issues like kinking cables?

What is flimsy about the bracket? The thickness of the metal or where it connects?
There is nothing flimsy about either of the brackets. The throttle cable bracket mounts solid. I suppose you could smack it with a hammer once its installed and get it to bend. I find it a quality part myself.

Ive done a few over the years. The last car is my current one and it was a carbed car to start with, so there were no issues as far as cable length. The TPI cable is a little longer but not much, were only talking a couple inches. It still mounts the same way and you just route the cable so that it doesnt kink. I dont see why it wouldnt work
Note that the Holley bracket holds both the TV cable AND the throttle cable. Also pictured is the geometry corrector bracket. Both are solid pieces and not flimsy at all. Like I said, if you go with the Holley carb, get the Holley brackets as well for ease of installation. Notice also that there is a tab on the bracket and a cut out on the base of the carb just for the bracket already there.
