Holley 600 VS

I used Sofa's Holley tune last spring to great advantage (recommended, BTW). After sitting for about a month, I noticed the accelerator was sticking. I sprayed the linkage as well as the carb throat. Afterward, the car wouldn't idle until I increased the idle speed. Currently, the car runs well under acceleration, even hard acceleration, but at cruise it bucks/surges like a bronc. Ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Holley 600 VS

Have you had it apart since this started happening?

The secondary idle passages are usually ignored because they lack adjustment. Air bleeds are another area overlooked.

I'd start with a disassembly, soaking, thorough blow-out of all passages, then a rebuild making sure everything is clean, clear, and properly adjusted.

No.

I did all this when I did the Sofa tune only a few months ago. Maddening.

An easy thing to do would be to get some carb cleaner spray and hit the air bleeds. Can't hurt anything.

Actually, I just came in from doing just that, along with several test drives. Though the car is running much better, the accelerator is still sticking—and that after several hits with carb cleaner. Dunno, maybe the throttle shaft assembly has gone south.

Re: Holley 600 VS

It does sound like any issue from sitting. If the carb spray had a noticeable effect, that's worth pursuing.
What do you think is the quality of the fuel in the tank? A marginal batch might go south in a months time.

I thought I'd repeat spraying the bleeds and throttle plates again, then hitting them with compressed air.

I suspect that during the winter months I allow the car to sit far too long (similar situation a year ago). Bad fuel? Couldn't say.
