The wrong geometrie :(
The wrong geometrie :(
Hey guys, its the newb again :P
So i bought the universal adjustable edelbrock bracket 8031, to fix my throttle cable and throttle valve cable in.
Now i fixed the cable's in the bracket, but the throttle cable doesn't even reach the bracket thats on the carburator as you can see on the pictures.
After i took the pictures i extended the edelbrocket bracket as far forward as it could reach and the distance is a little less now, but still by far the cable doesnt reach the bracket on the carburator.
Is there corrector sets for this issue?
Iff so, wich one do i need?

Its a 1983 Camaro RS which used to have a 2.8 litre engine (i dont think they changed out the throttle cable and i am not sure iff that is needed)
It now has a 5 litre engine (305 CI) with a Quadrajet carburator.
Mounted to the engine is a TH700R4 transmission.
Thanks for your help!

Re: The wrong geometrie :(
Doesn't that bracket mount off the back bolt/stud for the carburetor baseplate? It looks like you have it mounted to a manifold bolt.
Re: The wrong geometrie :(
Yes, it is mounted to the 2 last bolts of the manifold.
But when i look on the picture you attached, it looks the same. (Minus the dirt :P) It looks like i have mounted in the exact same spot.
You think for a quadrajet it needs to be mounted to the back of the carburator like some other brackets?
Thanks, Cleotiz

I don't know why Edelbrock even sells that piece of crap bracket. It doesn't fit anything. For starters, the throttle cable head needs to be FORWARD of the TV (trans) cable head, not behind it. The whole damned thing is just bass ackwards from go. Return it if you have the reciept, otherwise throw it in the trash.
Since they've already drained a bunch of bucks from your wallet, you need something tht will work on the cheap. Like this:

No, it's not the best bracket in the world, but it can be made to work with just about anything. I've used them many times. (PM me and I'll explain how to set one up properly so it lives a long, healthy service life)
OK, so let's say you hate that idea. What's next up the quality ladder? This:

The CORRECT Edelbrock throttle cable bracket that will work with your combo. I use this bracket on my Malibu that's got a QJet sitting on top of the Weiand blower. I had to cut it and extend the whole thing upwards several inches to line things up (since the carb is about 3-4" higher up than it would be on a normal intake manifold) but otherwise it is as-delivered from Edelbrock. This thing is BEEFY. It does NOT bend or flex in the slightest.
Also, and I'm just wondering out loud here... why are you using a kickdown/TV trans cable with a Qjet that doesn't even have provisions for a TV/kickdown cable stud? That throttle arm almost makes me think that's a marine QJet.

Damon, Thanks for your reply!
Very usefull info!
Its true i allready spent quite a few buck on brackets and such, and then iff they turn out to be the wrong ones thats very frustrating!
I have no idea where this particular Qjet comes from, it came with the car, that is an incomplete puzzle.
Theres a whole bunch of brackets missing, for example the shift lever that goes on the TH7004. (not easy to get for a floor shifter!)
Also, since i live overseas i have to be very patient sometimes before i get something to work.
But hey, i got it to run last week!
I will surely look into the links you provided, much thanks!

Re: The wrong geometrie :(
sure wouldnt be hard to bend a piece of metal coathanger into an "S" shape for the throttle.
for the transmission tv cable you can make your own bracket, (if skilled). this video gives the correct dimensions that are critical for proper operation.

This video is one of the better illustrations of the angles and distances involved. Good post.
