rich, lean or just sorry gears
My car's specs are in my sig. When I really step on it, initial take off is good, but as I stay on the gas hoping to really haul ***, it just seems to drag. A very little bit of smoke exits the tailpipes - almost not enough to see. Burns no oil.
The A/F screws are out 2 1/4 turns.
I am using ported vacuum advance.
Initial timing is 10* BTDC.
Plug gap is .045.
Does anyone have suggestions on what I might be able to try in carb tuning, vacuum advance or timing to get the lead out? I know my 2.73 rear is a major downfall. I still think I should be able to accelerate faster and more consistently.
Any ideas are appreciated.

In your sig you say you are running a stock fuel pump?Do you have a pressure gauge on the car you can view when you get on it,interior mounted? My guess from what you say it sounds like she is running out of fuel when you get in it.You have enough supply when you initially jump on it but as RPM's climb and the motor demands more fuel it (fuel pump) just cant hang with your motor causing it to lay down.May be time for a higher output pump.Get rid of those gears, you will love a set of 3.73 gears in that car.

Tighten up the spring on the secondaries and see if that helps. If they open too soon, especially on a poorly geared car, you will get a bog. The sorry gears will make the problem much worse.

Read my post, Power Loss, Lost 200 horsepower! or somthing like that. You may seem the same-damn-thing. My car is sooo slow it seems with the 2.73's even though i should be pushing well over 400 horses. especially with the high asz gear of the Th350 in first, it seems to take forever to hit my shift point. It seems to me i have eternal Turbo lag, although, i never hit boost level!

Oh yeah and whoever said to "tighten up those springs in the secondaries" his carb, shouldnt have springs, its an edelbrock, unless im mistaken, those are manual secondaries. i have a 600 somewhere around here, i dont think edelbrock makes a vaccume secondary carb. i could be wrong though.:lala:

Rocky Im sorry LOL but i just realized somthing.
Either you mistyped the info in your sig, or i have a suggestion for your "high end power loss"
Your camshaft suits a 305 Just fine, but not a 383. I'd say around 3500 RPMS your engine starts to run out of breath, those 383's are heavy breathers because of the longer stroke, and that duration and lift is nearly STOCK for a 305 Im not joking... Even my 355 with a 234/244 @ .050 isnt enough air top end, but I've also got a nitrous cam so i expect to fall on my face without nitrous. you however, you need a cam with about 40 more degrees of duration and at LEAST an extra .100 lift for that monster. Im sure everyone would agree with me. In fact, im changing the cam out of my car soon as i can, im sick of not having power without nitrous. its great when i spray, but i lose nearly 1.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile because my engine cant breath at higher rpms as well with its 114 LCA. Even a comp cams guy recommended "STRONGLY" I get at LEAST 3.73 Gears and 230/240 @ .050 cam if i want to match everything together.
Mail them if you have to, camhelp@compcams.com
tell them basically whats in your sig, i guarantee they will point out your gears and your almost-roundish camshaft.
