Vapor canister

Just curious if anybody could make me a little smarter concerning the fuel vapor canister. I know what its purpose is BUT is it needed? Or is it leftover 80s emission eqpt? Thanks!

Re: Vapor canister

Needed? Depends on if you like fuel vapor smell or not. Still a thing, still relevant. The charcoal absorbs the vapor, the engine then sucks the vapors up and consumes it. Otherwise the vapors just vent to the atmosphere.

Re: Vapor canister

Copy that. My 84 Z28 still has the original in it from factory. This worth a replacement or ride as is? No known problems other than it’s 40 years old

Re: Vapor canister

If it's doing it's thing then I'd leave it. People have 'rebuilt' them and changed out the charcoal media inside. A search should yield a how to if you're interested.

Re: Vapor canister

They are still used in modern cars. If you are having canister issues, I verified this for a 1990, you'd have to check wiring diagrams to see if it would work. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ter-purge.html

Re: Vapor canister

I just went and took another look at that thing…the CARB line is capped off. Only the TANK line is hooked up. Not sure why it’s that way to be honest. Never really paid any attention to it before. Ideas, thoughts as to what/why?

Re: Vapor canister

Why do people come on here and ask WHY humans do ANYTHING?

It's because they're HUMANS, and they're STUUUUUPID, and they're IRRATIONAL, and LAZY, and about a hundred other things that ... aren't nice to say.

In short, asking "why did Stimpy ... do [fill in the blank with random stupidity]?" is simply the wrong line of inquiry. If you were dealing with logic and reason, then going back through someone else's prior decision-making process might yield insights into something you hadn't noticed or thought of or knew about; but in cases like this, it's an intellectual dead end. Wrong question to ask. "Why don't fish use bicycles to get around?"

[/rant mode] The "carb" fitting takes a 3/8" hose that goes to the carb fuel bowl, to catch vapors that might emit from there. It hooks to the big nipple at the very front and center top of the carb.

Re: Vapor canister

^ That's it there. Probably ignorantly trying to 'fix' something. Or thought it was a performance gain. Just fix it the correct way now.

Despite a well organized campaign, bicycle riding fish didn't make Darwin's last cut, but, , , don't be surprised when gene splicing brings em back on some dark future day.......
