Edelbrock 650 CFM

I am planning on putting an Edelbrock 650 in my 86 IROC Z28,, I hear I will need an adapter for it to fit on my intake. Does anyone know of an Aluminum Intake that I could install and not have to use the adapter? I will probably go ahead and put the Edelbrock on the car for now using the Adapter. But,, Also, will this Edelbrock add horsepower to my car? I know if I add an aluminum Intake, it will, like, 20hp,, or so.. but what about the Carb? Any help will be Greatly appreciated.

I take it the Edelbrock carb is a squarebore flange and not a spreadbore? The two manifolds that come to mind are the Edelbrock Performer (EGR) and the Weiand Actions Plus and I believe the Weiand also has bolt patterns for both spreadbore and square flange carbs just as the Performer does. You could also just go with a spreadbore Edelbrock or Holley.

I contacted the Edelbrock company regarding the Carb for my 86 IROC, they replied saying they don't make the computer controlled carb for that model. But Pep Boys says they have two replacements, The Holley and Edelbrock. I know the Edelbrock is a 650CFM, not sure about the Holley, But does anyone know if there is such a thing for the 86 IROC? Mine is a Computer Controlled for the choke. But,, the Edelbrock company says, They make no Carb for that model Car.. I thought Pep Boys knew what they were saying, If the Edelbrock is not going to work on my car,, using the computer control, does HOlley make a computer controlled Carb for replacement of my Quadrajet? Please reply.. I am about to spend the money to get a new carb,, but if I have to I will just overhaul the Quadrajet.

stay away from pep boys unless you need connectors or vacuum hoses. seriously, the only replacement for your quadrajet is a cc-qjet. Your only options to stay "legal" are to rebuild your q-jet, get a rebuilt one, or switch to a fuel injection system.

when i said in earlier post you could use either a holley or edelbrock, that meant ditch the computer, and use a vacuum adv distributor, which is not street legal. cheers.

ok edlebrock makes a performer series carb at 600 not 650 thats a square-bore carb get the 600 man-choke and a non-emmisions legal wieand dual-plane squarebore intake it'll make lots of ponies and it'll start perfect in the morinig right out of the box

P.s. ditch the computer for the choke it's not worth it.

Future mods 400 performer rpm intake (polished) and 600 edlebrock carb, comp roller cam, and way better heads. orpossibly a 383 stroker?

Allright, alot Of Mis information Going around here.

First off, Getting performance parts from Any store like Pep Boys is Foolish, Unless you like spending 30% more than You would buying From summit or Jegs or PAW.

Secondly, your car has a Computer Controlled E4ME quadrajet. The computer controls Both the Choke, AND The mixture ( to an extent) and uses a throttle position sensor to control Other variables including Timing advance.

If You want to Upgrade your Carb, and stay Smog legal, Your going to Have to get your stock Carb overhauled. Noone makes a Emissions legal E4ME compatible replacement.

If You just want to increase performance, You can Go with any number of aftermarket Carburetors and intake combinations, Depending On your preferance and engine setup, But if You do, You MUST replace your Computer controlled distributor with a Vaccum or mechnanical advance distributor, Either aftermarket ( MSD, ACCEL, ect ) or OEM ( junkyard pre 81 cherolet smallblck V8 )

If You chose to Do this, You will throw a code As the computer controlled carb and distributor Are no longer there, The car will Run Fine, but You get the SES light of Doom. ( take the bulb out )

Currently, My car is Running a Vaccum advance HEI out of a 79 firebird, and a Vaccum secondary mech Quadrajet out of a 74 truck. The Car runs just fine, I dont get as Good of Milage, but I have a noticeable amout More power.

Keep In Mind, to re Smog the car In 2 years, Your Going to Have to Put All the pLumbing Back In. So dont throw things away, and If you arent Emissions savy, Take some pictures when you take it apart To remember where it all goes.

This is a Lo-Buck ( especially if you use parts your Buddies Tossed aside...) swap I would recommend For anyone Who is looking Do Hop up there LG4 On a Budjet, You can Defintely Feel a Differance.

There is a holley replacement for your computer (feedback carb) . I just some one 2 days ago at Checkers Auto parts(El Paso , TX). The thing looks just like your current feedback carb only it comes from holley. I know I was surprised to. I will eventually buy it cuz I will need it more my inspection sticker.
