hey paul,

i think our canadian cars first had computer controlled q-jets in 1987 (correct me if i am wrong guys), so if that is the original carb, i would think it is computer controlled. if it is computer controlled it will have some electrical connections (other than the electric choke). also if your q-jet is computer controlled you will NOT have a vacuum advance HEI distributor. if your carb is computer controlled you will have a computer controlled HEI. for example there will be an electrical connector near the front of the carb on the passenger side. look for something like this:

Paul,

If you have the computer controlled carburetor (Rochester E4ME) it will have at least three electrical connectors, and possibly four (if you have an idle speed solenoid). The carb will have a connector for the choke electric heater elelment, one for the throttle position sensor, and one for the mixture control solenoid.

It should look like this:

Let us know wheter or not that's what's bolted on.

Z28,

Item 48 is a choke pulloff servo. You may or may not have it.

Paul,

I'd check and adjust the the TPS setting. Then get out your tachometer or duty-cycle meter and set the mixture control solenoid. I've got a procedure if you need it.

HI,

I had (and sometimes still have) the same problems with my car..

The hard starting in cold was caused by the choke pull off diagram
number 25 on the picture. It was set incorrectly..now starting isn't a problem anymore whatever the temp is.

I replaced the TPS sensor and CTS (were both broken) but it still runs rich...
Changed to another Qjet from an L69 and it is still running rich.
Replced my MAP sensor because of an code 32 and 34 but didn't fix anything. Cleaned out EGR but didn't matter. Checked all vacuum and TPS voltage is about 0.5 V when idling, should be good.

Now I've changed my spark plugs and PCV valve and now it is running richer than ever, letting out charcoal from my exhaust whenever I rev it in Park or Neutral. And it feels like I lost a lot of power....but could be TV cable setting as well. I don't know where to look anymore but the only thing I haven't changed or swapped is the Baro sensor (separate from the MAP in my car) which is on the left side firewall of the engine bay. My question is if this could be causing all these problems?? (and setting code 32 and 34?)
When driving the SES light lights up when slowing down and
dims when accelerating again...

And vader how do I adjust the MC solenoid?? never heard of that one and got all the books, Chilton/Hayes and Hayes Qjet (where should I look for this adjustement?)

And darbleinad I see in the picture the vacuum hose on your intake manifold is running to the right and not to the left to the MAP sensor so where is it going to on your car??

greetings marald

TACH001,

canadian f-bodies with q-jets werent computer controlled until 86 or 87. my 84 Trans Am came stock with a non-computer controlled q-jet (and a vacuum advance HEI) on the LG4.
