Q-Jet, CFM?
I just got my 84-Z28 running! It's awesome! I got it with no eng. Put a 350 in from a truck, no emmisions, low mi. crate motor, no interior, just a seat. been sitting for a few years. but it started up perfectly with just carb cleaner. I replaced the fuel pump and my friend rebuilt the carb. He's an old pro at it and it ran great after he dialed it in! but he said the Q-Jet is only about 550 cfm. which is ok by me with gas as high as it is. I thought they were about 750 cfm? I havent had it out on the open road yet but it feels good and responsive and with 3.73 gears I dont expect good gas milage. I'll be upgrading with exhaust and ignition parts soon. But right now I'm extremly happy to get running. This is my first real muscle car and project I've been waiting for all my life. Awesome!

With as many problems that are shared on this board, I always like to hear about a success story! Thanks. To answer your question... I have heard as much as 850cfm, your friend is a little low.
I used to get about 25+mpg with 3.27 gears with my q-jet. Not too bad for close to 400HP. Do you have the computer hooked up to it too? With as many battles as I used to have with the computer, to get it to run the first time (with no codes?) is an amazing feat!

1984 z28 w/ a 357 cu in. monster engine which is looking like the posterchild for Edelbrock with the exception of the Holley 750vac... all the suspension stuff... 9-bolt posi disk is in...

a q-jet only came in two different cfm ratings. 750,800. the 800 has slightly larger primary venturi which has very little to no perfomance advantage over the 750. even though edelbrock gives theirs a higher cfm rating the venturis and throttle blade sizes have not changed.

Quite a rush putting something together yourself and actually have it run well huh, good for you!Rochester did make a 550 cfm carb (model 4G)just to let you know, but the big boys are the 4m series quadrajets. They do flow 750-800 cfm like previously posted.Even if you do have the smaller carb,it should work fine for a mild 350 that probably won't see the high side of 6 grand.Go hunt some ponies big guy!

You might want to pay attention to the Choke light before you discard the bulb. By excessively elegant engineering on the part of GM, it's also the Alternator light. I'm sure the person who dreamed that one up can't understand why everybody else doesn't make the connection.
Your alternator is either not working, or not hooked up correctly.

Thanks, I found the choke wire was making contact and was making the choke light flicker. I taped it up for now and it quit. the alternator gauge is working at between 13 and 10 amps. I think that's about right? I don't have an electric choke so I'll have to leave the wire there? The guy who had it before me had some car alarm installed with wires and buzzers and indicator lights. Called Python system 60 that needs to be disconnected? My headlights work and windows, turn signals come on but don't flash. So as you can see I have a s**t load of work to do! I think I'm going to get it working good enough to drive it to a friends work shop, He happens to have his own auto electric business. Not for free though, d** but at least he will do it for a little less. I'll see how far I can get first, at least enough so it won't hurt so bad in the wallet. Thanks again,

first make sure all the bulbs are good for every blinker light. Then check the fuse and if that still don't work there is a relay behind the dash for the blinkers. I really am not sure of its exact location maybe someone else can help you out wiht that.
