What part is this?

1992 Camaro RS convertible.

I noticed that when I lower my top into the well, parts of the top are being scraped and in some cases starting to rip.

There is a strip of serated metal covered with a black material that covers the sheet metal seams and is supposed to protect the top material. This goes from side to side in the well.

I apologize that I do not know the proper name for this item. Does anyone know what it is called? Does anyone know where to purchase a new replacement piece?

Thanks!

Steve

if you tell me how to take the picture i'd run to my driveway and take one for you. Just let me know if the tops houdl be up/down and at what location this piece is at. I'll just snap a bunch of pics and you can locate what piece you're talking about

I know exactly what you're talking about... I had the same problem with mine. I debated buying a new one.... but it seems that almost everything 3rdgen 'vert related is pretty pricey. Instead, I pulled it off, reversed it and remounted it (using 3m contact adhesive). No more snagging problem, and you can't even see where the serrated metal came through the rubber! Problem solved... (for now).

Just lift the back of the top up and then pop open the tonneau cover (or whatever you call it). If you look at the inside of the fender where the seam or lip is, then you will see a strip or bead of black material that is covering a serrated metal interior.

That is the piece that I want to know the name for and an out source for it.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the info!

Is that repair info from a collision shop manual? I am not sure if the piece that I am looking for is on those pages, but there is a wealth of info and part numbers that I need to check into.

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

Rock on!
