Different spoiler

Has anyone put a different spoiler on their verts? Camaro's specifically. I just was thinking about how I really don't like the three-piece spoiler that comes all the way up to the rear of the door. Anyone else think a 91-92 High-rise Z28 spoiler would look awesome on these cars? I think I remember seeing a Firebird vert before with the 91-92 Z spoiler on it at a car show before. Lemme know what you think...

There is a reason it comes all the way up to the door. It covers the area where they cut the roof off.

Ah, that's what I was wondering. I figured there was a reason, but wasn't sure what it was. Thanks for clearing that up...

I think the high rise 90-92 spoilers look great on the verts !!

I did a search a while back here and found some pics
and I totaly plan on a high rise spoiler for my vert project !

if I remember right, one or the other needs altered because
of the pinch weld caps. it would make sense to me to alter the spoiler, not the pinch weld caps. but the ones I had seen had altered the pinch weld caps.

Yes the topic of adding a hi-rise (91-92 Z28) spoiler on a 'vert has been covered here before. I personally don't care for the look, but to each his own. There would be some customization required. I'd recommend customising the hi-rise spoiler to fit the end caps, not the other way around. The spoiler is far easier to replace than the side pieces that cover the cut for the convertible conversion.

Thanks!

After seeing the pics, I kinda have mixed feelings. Wish there was a good side-profile pic with the high rise. C'mon photoshoppers, let's see whatcha got!

Lon, any ideas to glue those caps in, or should I confer with a local body shop on mine? They've been off now for a year it seems! I'm worried about moisture and the like inside the spoiler where the caps normally fill.

For the thin profile of the spoiler, I think the subtle low ones, accent pretty well, I can see there might be some complaints. The large one doesn't look bad either, but the most interesting aspect to me is the white Camaro with white top, makes me wish I'd considered a white top more for mine! hehe

I've never had mine off to worry about re-attaching them. I'd use an epoxy specifically designed for the materials. Roughen the inside of the cap and make sure it is clean. I prefer the epoxies with the built-in mixing nozzles. It assures a consistent mixing of the two parts. I use Devcon Plastic Welder for my reinforced plastic housings, but it has a short work time (4-6 minutes).

In your case I'd use Devcon 14345 Flex Welder, which fills spaces between surfaces up to 3/8". Can be sanded and painted. Bonds some metals (including cold-rolled steel, cast iron, and painted metals), some plastics (including polyester, polystyrene, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, and PVC), and fiberglass (FRP). It begins to harden in 8-10 minutes. The application gun is under $23, mixing nozzles are a dollar in small quantity. Let me know if you need a source for it. Tape it in place with the blue painters tape.

If it were me I'd modify the angle of the hi-rise spoiler to fit the side trim piece of the convertible rather than the other way around. It is a LOT easier to get a new 91-92 Z28 spoiler if you change your mind than it is to find a new convertible trim piece. One persons unique "personalization" of their vehicles can easily become a future owners "what were they thinking?".

Ehhhhh, Ive had the car since new in 92 and dont plan to get rid of it.

Besides that a buddy has a vert and IF i do change my mine I can easily make molds of the caps and reproduce then just like we are with the iroc hood in glass..

i have a custom spoiler on my firebird, the previous owner made it , but the rear lip of the stock spoiler was built up more the the side of the center spoiler are swept forward slightly, and an led bar was built in to replace the brake light. it looks worlds better than stock, the stock spoiler just doesnt look like it fits well..
