Same Old Crap......How About Some New Threads?

Okay. Maybe I am jaded or something. Everytime I am here it seems like the same old crap. Same questions, same comments, same pictures.....blah, blah, blah!

How about something different?

I am interested in what other convertible owner's think is the coolest mod in their car? The most unique or most original or the most functional or a combination of all of the above.

I have done alot of things to my car. Nothing unique. Just catalog or store bought stuff....Spohn suspension, new interior, gages, gage pod, etc.....the usual esoteric stuff.

Let's hear it from you guys! Chime in. Stand up and be counted!!!

Well, barring an engine swap it has to be the suspension stuff that I am way behind on. The first thing was the TDS wonderbar. Instant improvement. After that, I went with the GTA wheels and much wider tires all the way around. The GTA's made the wheels an inch larger (duh) and changed the ride of the car just that much more.

I've got some plans for some other things such as the usual "must haves" like SFC's, an LS1 drive shaft, and whatever else I can do with the suspension. I'm curious about the nylon bushing replacements for the suspension and heard mixed reviews. Anyone done anything with these?

Thanks for starting the thread, Shippie! I hope shr00m chimes in with his pics.

Right now I am totally stripping my convertible, it is now totally gutted tipped on its side, tonight I just got one of the sub frame connectors off and found lots a rust behind the front wheel. Looks like I have more work to do.

Well for mine ive done some subtle things, while mostly replacing a bunch of **** that the previous owner was kind enough to lose break or just plain screw up..... When i bought the car i didnt have a door key !!!!! i found it UNDER the carpet by the drivers seat....jeez..... Anyway ive replaced all the screwed gray interrior with black all i have left is to re cover the back panels in black, but im trying to find the same matreial is the hoors (salt pepper) Ive added the wonderbar, some subframes, boxed in the Lca's and the panhard rod, lowering springs, new shocks, custom stainless exhaust tips, black zo6 rims...... The motor, im just waiting for it to grenande someday and then ill think about a swap, unless i can pick up a nice 350 (wish i hadnt gave my old one away from my Z28....doh !)

Things To Do......

I am kind of looking for inspiration for my next project on the Camaro, if i do not sell it first. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures here, but since I cannot, this link will have to suffice:

My car exterior shot.

My car interior shot.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/820144

Right now i am thinking of new paint and stripes. Staying with the arctic white and go with black stripes. Beyond that, I am at a loss as to what else i want to do to it.

These are the stripes I want. (Thanks to Sal {luvmy92}).

I figured out how to get pictures on here!

Well i am trying to work on my 1990 iroc convertible by stripping it all down myself and then put it on a frame machine. i plan on repainting the engine bay and the car all too pearl white with maybe a different kind of hood. we will see how it goes i have never taken a car apart.

Well, I'm starting to get to work on the neglected '87 IROC 'vert that I bought last month. Aside from going through all the mechanical/electrical issues, I'm going to try to make it look nicer.

Here is a photo of the powder coated intake, polished plenum and runners that I'm going to put on this weekend....

My valve covers are a little rusty and crappy - should I media blast and paint them silver or aluminum, or get some stock looking aluminum covers?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I want a clean, polished look under the hood, but not cheesy...

Do you know where I can get aluminum valve covers? I wonder if someone local in LA has them...

Anyone know a good brand? Thanks!

I found these polished aluminum covers for $129 at Summit, got them sent overnight for Saturday - will put these on tomorrow with the polished intake/plenum/runners and throttle body.

I'll get some photos when it's all together tomorrow and will post them and see what you guys think...

I just picked up a 36mm hollow sway bar and a 28 splined, pbr disc, 3.42 posi rear end along with the rest of the stuff I needed for the T-5 swap at the junk yard the other day. Will be swapping tired LB9 for 350, 700 for wc t-5 and 2.73 drum for newly aquired rear before Christmas. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that swapping drivetrains will be the best mod I ever have, or ever will do to the car.

I was feeling pretty good about my shiny valve covers until I read that! Nice!
That is my ultimate upgrade, a 350/5 speed!
What are you doing with the motor, TPI or carb?

Cool Stuff

90-irocdx3, Good luck with the project! Sounds like you will have your hands full with that one for a while. Did you buy it that way or did someone help you to customize it?

'87 IROC VERT, The valve covers are sweet. I have looked at those in Summit as well.

gmgod, Tell us how the swap progresses. That sounds interesting. I know one modification that I would like to make to my car, would be to convert it to 4 wheel disc. The way I understand it, it is hard to convert from drum to disc on these cars using your original drum rear. You have to start with a disc rear end. What do you know about it?

From what I understand you just gotta hack off the top of your axle housing flange and drill the appropriate holes for the caliper bracket. The hard lines on the axle are probably different and I'm sure the e-brake cables are as well, other than that the propertioning valve is the only other thing I can think of. I'm taking the easy way out, I just snagged the whole axle, brakes, cables, lines and all.

'87 IROC VERT.... The motor I snagged out of my old 87 IROC, bored, zero decked and line honed the block, rods resized, crank turned, hyper pistons, ZZ4 cam and AFR 180 heads. I'm gonna keep the stock tpi and port it, run it with the ZZ4 cam till I get a handle on computer tuning, then swap to somthing like a comp xr269hr and a stealth ram.

i am in the middle of changing the interior of my vert from gray to black. the interior was really nasty when i purchased it. all i have left to do with the interior is putting the new door panals in that i got from classic ind. than next year its ripping the motor out for a 350 crate.

gmgod, nice - that's the kind of thing I have in mind...one day.
Hopefully I'll get the engine looking good, the paint and body all done, and a few little things wrapped up here and there.

Then, maybe next fall, I'll find a way to do something with my engine. I wonder, can I take my 305 and bore it out and use larger pistons and machined heads to bring it up to 350 or even 383, and lots of power? I'd love to keep my own block, it's nice and quiet and runs strong. Only 90k on it, and when I had the intake and valve covers off yesterday, it was CLEAN, which leads me to believe the previous owner really did change the oil often!

i customized the car mostly myself, when i orignally bought it in 2002 it had daytons and chrome around the wheel wells on it. it looked horrible. it was also completely stock. i hope to have the white on done by at least a year. the frame is bent but not the floor pans which is great.
