Has anybody ever tried to use a '91 top (frame) on an '88 model? better yet does anybody know where i can get a replacement top frame for my '88?

 

Do you have a 91 frame available? I have an 88 frame available and need a 91 frame. Maybe we can do a swap?

Well, there was one for sale on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I don't think it sold. IF you want to try to contact him and get his then I could buy yours. Do you have any pictures?

 

I should be able to get some pics this weekend. Is it just the frame you need?

Well, I guess if the top is in good condition I may as well get it also. depending on the cost of course.

 

I put a 91 top and frame on my 89 RS with no problems.
Only four bolts and its on.

 

my problem is the latch plates are different from 88' to 89 and up. If the latch plates can be changed then it shouldn't be a problem.

 

I have the 91 latch plates that came with the top somewhere in my shed.
However, the 91 top worked with my 89 latch plates on the top of the windshield.

 

Now I get it. You thought I had an '89 because of my user name. I have an early '88. The plates and top changed in mid '88. I have the earlier plates and top. The plates have a hole that the top latches go into. The newer style is a flat plate without the hole for the early latches. I would have to change the plates the top together if i go to the late '88 or newer top. IF I can find a top that will match to your plates maybe we can work something out. If you can find them, how about some pics?

Did the tops change the same time they stopped putting that extra trim piece on the top of the doors?

I'm in Key West, FL but the shipping on the two latch receiver pieces would be minimal. I'll get in the shed today and dig them up.

 

I just won a 91 top frame on ebay. If you can get those latch plates let me know. I may also need some other parts in that area of the car (interior trim along top of window). I'm in Waycross, GA (southeast GA).
