covertible wont seat in the back
I have a 1987 Iroc convertible. My question is, when the convertible top it up, it has a gap of about 2inches on the tonn. cover on the drivers side rear. The top in good condition and appears to be the original.

So basicially, when you fold down the top and then attempt to close the tonneau, it won't go down to the latches where it should "click" in to place? After reading the question again, you mention the top being up so that can't be right...
Can you describe the problem a little more? A picture would say a thousand words. :-)

i think what he's saying is that the top, when closed, and up fastened down, one edge on teh back is bent up, and thus, not making a seal against the tonneau..
or thats what I interpreted it as.

Yes Steve, that is what I am trying to say the convertible top is not sitting on the tonneau cover when I put the top up.

well as i dont know why yours is not level all the way across... the photo may shed some light.... if you can get one.
Mine kinda lips up around the "corner curves" behind the driver seat and passenger seat when it makes that curve to go to the side, but I think its still sealing well.. I think its just the top canvas that is bowing up on mine.
As for reasons to your issue.. only thing i can think of is a bent bow back there.. without seeing anything / photos of inside / outside and without actualy looking at the curve of the top with the back glass folded up.. those shoudl tell us alot.

that is where my top is lipping up also. I will try and get a pic to post. I could just be being paranoid. I just bought the car and I want it to be perfect. Thanks again for the input

no problem. I too just got my 89 vert, and well I am like you, i want it to be perfect.. I got out to the car yesterday and checked my clearance on the top lip in the areas you were asking about. While I can put my finger under the outer lipping, I cannot go all the way under the rubber weatherstripping at all. So I think it is mostly a cosmetic thing on my vert. When I get the new top, Im pretty sure all the problems with it looking warped up will go away.

Adjustment
Evans87,
There is not much to adjust on the tops of the Third Gen vert.
It sounds to me like somebody might have been monkeying around with the upstop.
My question for you is when you put the top up is it hard to get the top to meet at the windshield. Is it harder on one side or the other.
Second question, how hard is it to get the top to latch at the tonneau cover?
I might have a PDF somewhere on the top adjustment. I'll have to check on my computer at home.
The up and down stop is located where the last bow attaches to the body right behind the doors. There is an upstop and a down stop. The primary purpose of the upstop is to insure that when you put the top up the top falls into place at the windshield. It can also be adjusted slightly toward the rear to "tighten up" the top when latched. If one or the other is adjusted too far forward or backward (or even missing) then you might get the situation you describe.
