adjusting the convertible top
is there anyway to adjust the top on our cars. the problem that i am having is that the pin that goes thru the tonneau cover is off about a 1/4 of an inch to the front of the car. in order for me to get it in there i need to force it in. i broke the spring clip trying to remove the top once it was in. is there anyway to adjust this. i can post a pic tomorrow if it doesnt rain if that helps

Seems like it would be easier to loosen and move the tonneau cover forward 1/4".. It's like 4 bolts...

if i do that than i will have about an 1/2" gap between the tonneau cover and the deck lid. there is about 1/4 to 3/8" gap now.

New top? Shrinkage?
It sound like your top is a little too tight.
When the top is put on if I remember right the process is started from the rearmost bow and moves forward. At the front bow (the one that latches to the windshield) the top is trimmed and glued down. If this is the problem the only real FIX is to unglue and reglue it into place...
Why don't you try this instead:
When you put the top up just lay the front bow in place. Don't attempt to latch or even match the pins up. Just lay it up on the latch plates. Then close the Tonneau cover and latch the rear bow. After having done the above Now attempt to line up the latch pins and latch the top into place.
I'm guessing that this will be easier to accomplish than doing the process in the other direction, and that over time your top will stretch out a bit and you won't have to worry about it any more.
Let me know if this helps.
Good Luck!

Top adjustment.....
Last year I bought a top frame and new top off of a guy in Buffalo that totaled his convertible. I had to adjust mine to fit right.
The easiest way to do this is to loosen slightly the 4 fasteners (2 on each side) in the convertible well where the top frame is bolted to the body. That plate is slotted and just loosening it will allow you to move your top frame around to get it properly positioned.
You will need to keep the front locked down in positionand slide the top frame back far enough for the pin to properly enter the tonneau cover. Mark it on the top plate and then tighten it down.
Check that it works properly and seats tightly. You may have to do it a couple of times to get it where you want it.
There are also some adjustments that can be made on the rear bows for tightening the fabric. I'll save that for another time.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Tops
Well, I guess it all depends on where you live. Up here there are not all that many upholsterers. I did price it in spring 2004, before I bought the whole assembly on eBay.
I was quoted about $850.00 installed, plastic window, stayfast top.
I noticed that they were particular about the tops because there are like 3 different variations of tops for 3rd gens, and they are each a little different.
Good luck and sorry that didn't help you any.
