Vert 6x9 Panels

Hey guys, I am working to build a functional panel(s) to hold a 6x9 in the rear sail panel. I was wondering, if anyone else is interested, I was thinking about making a mold, so i could just fiber-glass up copies if it works out well. Mabey sell them a little above cost if people wanted them.

*shrug* just a thought.

Are you talking about 6x9 speakers?

because this is what's behind that panel. About 5" of the 6-1/2" factory speaker. Cause there is so much metal behind it they couldn't do it properly.

Yes, there is extra bracing behind the speakers. So you will need to grind it down or relocate the speaker a little.

However, you won't be able to use common 6x9's because they are too deep. They won't fit. How I know? Because the previous owner had 6x9's in cutout holes ... attached with 3" drywall screws and they were sticking out an inch at least!!

Hence, i'm not re-locating them, i'm either building a whole new panel, or i'm going to add a 2.5" (flush to that lil armrest) box to extend it out. So you can fit a bigger speaker, and hopefully have it in a enclosed box. = a lot better sound

My only issue i'm lookin into is giving the seat release handle space to fold down. I don't think it's a big issue for me, but if people wanted to buy these id think they'd still like to put there seats down if necessary.

6x9 area

I installed 6x9's on my vert. I added a 2 inch spacer made out of wood, it is actually two pieces glued together to give that tappered look so that the top of the spacer is only the size of the 6x9 and the bottom is slightly wider.
covered it in leather to match the rest of the panel and it looks part of the car. my seats fold down without touching the speaker.
I will take some pics and post it.

well, here is a quick wooden rough draft. I needed something to get me to MD, i plan on re-doing in fiberglass, mainly because the wood is just too heavy.

Car: A Camaro of some sort.
Car audio stores usually have the one one and two inch spacers available in black plastic. Pretty cheap and gets the job done.

Original speakers were 6"

I had 6x9's and hit the problem of the bracing being in the way, did the 'trim' the bracing, a little extension, but found my BEST results going with a set of 6 1/2" Infinity's...better sound than 3 different sets of 6x9, and NO issues with fit.....

Do you guys think that 1-1/2" spacers will work and give us enough room to mount some 6x9's?

Jay

I don't have my notes in front of me, but i believe that's all mine are (speakers are actually sunken in so you can't damage them)... but really it depends upon the depth of the speaker. They are all different.

Serpentine,

What is the mounting depth of your 6x9's? Also, when you get a chance could you check and see what size spacers you are using?

Thanks,
Jay

I am not pulling my speakers again, but i think they were 4" total depth. 3-3/4" bottom depth. its complicated to explain, so i made a lil model of it. ... mabey somone can verify the dimension, cuz that was best guess off the top of my head (camaro isn't available to me right now.. lol.)

yea, it's deff not 1'-6" across... *shrug*

Yes. It's only MDF cut in two different sizes. One larger than the other one, then glued together. As son as you out some type of fabric over it, it gives you that tappered look.
