I wrecked my vert.

But now it's fixed!

I nailed a deer well over a month or so ago. Insurance company wanted to total it out and offered me ~4500. Uh, no. It's fixed with a clean title now. Better shots coming.

Our cars have no value *shrug*. Any fender bender will most likely cause it to be "totaled"

Maybe not from a "book value" perspective, but try and buy a real nice one for cheap. Those deals aren't out there anymore. I insured mine with Haggerty Collector Insurance for a declared value of $10K and they didn't batt an eye.

Hi,
Just got my 82 Firebird insured with Haggerty Collector Insurance with a declared value of $15K. It wasn't very hard at all, sent them information and pictures.

The fender and door weren't original. Previous owner had sideswiped a guardrail or something and I had replaced but never painted.

The deer...let's just say he didn't make it. It was pretty bloody.

How much do you guys with Haggarty pay a month? Do you have mileage restrictions? Or any other restrictions?

Mine's appraised at $13,500 and I'm insured with a company called Silver Wheels in Canada. There is no mileage restriction, but the car cannot be driven to work or shopping. If I go to a weekend show where the car will be in a parking lot for the night I just need to call and let them know. My premium is $212.00 for the year with better coverage than my daily's. It's also based on an agreed appraisal value. My 1980 Z28 is appraised at $12,000 and I pay $106 for the year. We have Haggarty up here but they are more expensive and more restrictions.

That doesn't sound very useful to me.

"We'll ensure your car for unlimited mileage but just don't drive it every day or where you might normally go."

I'll stick with the deal I worked with my State Farm agent until I retire her to "Trailer Queen" or "Show Car" status if that ever happens.

Any insurance company should be willing to work with you an a stated value.

My 67 Riviera I could insure through Hagerty, but I do not because it would cost me more per year. I have an APPRAISED Value of $25,000 on her. The appraiser did the car back in 1990, and the first thing he said was he forgot how nice the car was....

My 87 Formula I also have $25,000, but I have $20,000 in reciepts, and since the work was done by me my work means something. The Vert is only at $15,000 right now but it needs some paint work, its just faded pretty badly.

The reason I do not go through Hagerty is the premium is a constant price for an entire year, I use Encompass insurance who used to be CNA who actually underwrites Hagerty anyways. But since I do not drive my cars year round I can opt not to drive the car and only pay for Comprehensive, (basically glass breakage, Fire, Theft, house falls down from wind storm etc.) My house insurance is also though them which helps because I only have to talk to one company and I get a multi-policy discount.

My insurance on my 67 is $45 per year (undriven), my firebirds are about $100 each (undriven). If I opt to drive a car I let them know when I want the insurance... Then when I am done for the season I let them know when to take the insurance off... Its as easy as an e-mail or phone call (I have my agents phone number memorized).

Basically If you have any kind of nice car which is appreciateing at this point in time then I would recommend investing about $100 for an appraisal and then give it to your insurance company... NEVER drive without telling them. If they hassle you about changin your policy so often, then shop around and tell them what your wanting to do. My Agent is my friend, and one of the women that works for him was complaining about my often changes in poilicy, he put a kabosh to it.

Is something like that even possible on a daily driver? It seems fairly obvious that they are nice weather toys for you. This is my only mode of transportation; which I like. I'd pick up another car for emergency purposes but it would just sit until I needed to drive it. I guess I'll have to talk to insurance.

When i totaled my RS, my dad (Who was the legal owner of the car) got a very very good deal from our insurance company. Our company uses NADA values, and under NADA, a Heritage Edition car is worth well over 2x (because a heritage is already considered a classic car) what a regular 92 Camaro is worth. IT took about 3 weeks, but we recieved fair compensation according to NADA Classic Values...

You say HE didn't make it ... was it a buck? If it had a nice rack, you should have mounted that bad-boy!! LOL.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you'd classify the deer but it had quite a few antlers.

Although the irony is, I'm a veggetarian.

At the first gathering I went to that was at a pizza place, Schultz had the waitress bring out a plate with parsley(sp?) and some lettuce on it.

No shots yet. Still snowy.

Lady killed my 'bird!!!!!!

I was driving to work today and this lady T-boned my 85 firebird!!!!!! I'm devestated! I love my car!!!

She was at fault, but.....................

I'm concerned that I will not get the true value of the car back. I just spent about $2,500 purchasing and installing a 400 sbc about 2 months ago. I just bought and installed four Tokiko HP (blues) three days ago, about $400. I also had the transmission rebuilt about 6 months ago (t5 - before I knew I was putting in the 400), which was another $1,100. Not to mention the initial $1,000 I paid for the car. Plus exhaust work, LED dash, system, etc.

But that doesn't even begin to touch the personal value of my car.

I need some advice on what to do and say to these people to assure that I am reimbursed properly so I CAN START BUILDING ANOTHER FIREBIRD - THIRD GEN OF COURSE.

DEfinately fight for it, Make sure you have all of your recipts, If they start the song and dance about the value then point pull out all of the tricks. It will probably not swing them but point to the fact that you can hardly find any cheep 3rd gens any more unless they do not run or they are severly rusted or trashed. Do some research, and if necessary go after the person who hit you, you may have some legal rights there too.

good luck, its another example of how a $100 appraisal would have gotten you out of a jam a lot easier.
