Found a vert what do you think

I found a vert local and want to know what you guys think buy or no buy .This is a 88 iroc vert with a auto tranny . I have a few ? the car is a little rough .What can you tell me from the VIN 1G1FP31F8JL155690
It makes a knocking sound I think it is from the A/C compressor
Paint is not good ,car was burgendy and shows in spots
Light buckets are spray painted black
Hood and nose has a 1" gap
Trunk gets pulled down to far buy the eletric motor
Body is not 100% but maybe 80% strait no rust
Tail lights are stepet in a little from the outside of the body and say DOT85
This car looks like it was put together from a parts car . Are hard or t-top car parts different lights nose fenders. Over all the car was solid he wants 5000$ but I got him down to $4500 .Im in the market to buy a vert can I find a better one for the money .
Thanks have to make my mind up by 12-30-06

More importantly how are the vert specific parts as they are hard to find. Like sun visors and the plastic peices above them, the top and frame and tonneau cover, trunk lid, spoiler. I would do like a carfax search on it to see how many fixes it's had. Did the owner explain the 1" gap? I doesn't look in that bad of shape to me. How many miles? Everything you mentioned is fixable how much time and money do you have?

How many miles are on it? Getting those panels to align back up can be pricey too. I agree on the vert specific parts, make sure that they are all there and in good shape. Most parts can be sourced online but it can add up. I would probably say keep looking. But these verts aren't getting any more plentiful. Tough call, but you can probably hold out for a better one.

Let me start by saying the owner was a mobster and spoke with a thick Bronx Ny accent (knows nothing about cars). When I started to talk about money he siad in the Bronx accent (You want to talk business ,let's go upstairs) later he told me that I can leave a deposit (your deposit we be totaly refundable) . Thier are people coming to look at the car sunday the 31st . I have the jump because I am local .

Back to the car I have noticed that the trunks on verts sits a little lower then the quarters. May just be that the spoiler needs to be straitend out . The cars engine bay is black ,but the under body was recently sprayed black and looks good .The mileage was about 130,000k and the interior was almost mint and all thier, had some gay looking 6x9 speaker boxes mounted behind the seats.

I do have the know how to make this car verry nice , but I would have to do more work then I would want to a 4500$ car .I realy want a 350 TPI vert tripple black (whats my chance of finding one) . I do have more money to spend ,like 6000$ and any black Iroc vert will do .Do I just bite the bullet and buy this one Like I said I have 6000$ now .I do not want a mint (12,000) original that I would feel bad cutting up but unmolested would be best. Is my car out thier somewhere Help and thanks

Don't rush into spending $4500 and regretting it. Spending a liitle more now may save you alot down the road.
Good Hunting

Just make sure that you can make the necessary repairs for a price that keeps you within the value of the car. It is real easy to get upside down and have no way of recovering your investment.

Probably a wise decision. Do keep looking though, a vert is a blast to own. You will never regret buying the right drop top.

He's asking 5k for that!!

Granted, it IS my dream car, but not in that condition. I paid $5,500 for my T/A vert and it is as good as you can expect for a 15-year-old daily driver.
