Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

Hey,

I am wondering how a Hawk's 5 inch spoiler would look on a convertible I know that the side caps are lower but I am sure that they could be filled to look as OE setup... I would also try to make our 3rd brake light fit in there too!

Does anyone here ever tried or seen this done, ever???

If so, I would really appreciate to see some pics. I was thinking about the 91/92 aero wing, but I personnaly think that the hawk's wing would really look like it was originally equipped with it.

(picture is propriety of hawksthirdgenparts.com)

Thanks in advance,

Pat

I had wondered the same thing on the 5". But I like the slick/smooth look more myself so never put time into it.

Someone on here was working on putting the areo wing on theres, then it got wrecked. Something about the way ASC did the fenders, alot of metal/body work was required to make it look right.

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

Yeah, I remember seeing a white convertible with red stripes wearing the aero wing. But I wasn't convinced that it look PERFECT since there were only few pics with no close shots... + I don't want to lower my side caps.

Yep, I really think that the 5 inch spoiler would give her a new bad a**

Any one else saw this done or did it yourself?

Any pics would really be appreciated.

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

I am not sure about fitment, BUT I know that the side caps would need to be modified or replaced. Also I think the ASC trunk has a little more bow than the factory hatch did, so fitment might be interesting. I do not think the hard top and convertible use the same center spoiler piece ( I do not know why they did not use them.)

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

It's true, I know that a vert doesn't use the same center wing as the coupe. That said, the side caps are fiberglass or eurethane? Anyhow, I am sure that a paint shop who are confortable with fabrication could do something with these caps. Maybe re-molded them.

And I remember reading in another post that other members has installed a third brake light in this spoiler. So the concerns are more with the caps

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

Yes, the center piece is "deeper" I guess, and kinda laid back more with not as quick a kick-up.

My center section has a 3rd light in it. I think all of them did as federal regulations state any CAR 86+ had to have a 3rd.

If I could get my hands on a cheap set of side pieces, id give it a try.

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

The idea is really cool, but it would take a lot of effort to make it look even CLOSE to good. The way the side caps are on the 5" would look really messy and clash with the caps on the convertible quarter panels.

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

From the pics you just posted, it makes me hesitating again!!!
I mean, the car is awesome , and with the aero wing, like you said: it's sick.
I prefer the ss hood tho. I will think it over and take some pics over the fitment process. I am not going to do this right away, but during november as well as an ss hood...

Would really like to see the 5 inch wing installed but I guess I would be the first to try this! I am not a fiberglass/plastic specialist at all, but if you are, do you think that the side caps could be filled over to match the 5 inch heigh?

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

Here is mine - http://www.thesherwoodgang.com/cars/88camaro/ . No one is really sure where it came from - it's a perfect fit with convertible trim and all - no curring, filling etc. I was told by a dealer in NJ that it was a OEM option installed by dealers. Someone else told me it was an option offered by ASC. Either way, it was designed for convertibles and looks factory installed.

Its up top where the b-post is. Under the spoiler that goes the whole length. The main part is the same as these were built as GM t-top cars.

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

Well, Dsherw00d

This is really what I am looking for. A sleek OE look. From your pics, it seems like to aero wing was worked instead of the side caps. Sounds interesting... In either case, someone could put back the factory spoiler in place without any problems! It fits like a glove.

I checked the pics of Hawk's 5 inch wing and it looks like the end section is too straight to flow with our side caps. It goes way up in the air instead of doing a smooth 45 degree. I The look is more a 90 degree!?

Thanks for your pics, I will save them and I am sure it will help the body shop to give it a try. If I decide going for the high rise spoiler, I prefer to loose it instead of ruining my side caps. Only God knows if I would ever be able to find some again, and at what cost

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

That's the thing with this spoiler - I was told buy the seller that it left the dealer with it on. It doesn't have any signs of being worked - inside or out. I know it wasn't a factory option - no RPO code for this. My guess is that whoever made the side trim pieces for the Vert made this spoiler. No one else would spend the $$ for such a low production run. maybe ASC sold them for some extra $$. The rest off the car is all original including paint. I have never seen another one like this installed on a 3rd gen, but that don't mean much. Dealers have been customizing Camaros since 67. Without the dealer invoice that was given to the customer (not the one on my web site that is from GM), I'll never know.

You can't be talking about my wheels - that must have been sarcasm They are junk and won't be on next spring - going back to the factory 16" wheels. Waiting to give it it's first paint job and a new top first.

Yeah! I must admit that you may need a paint job. I remember my previous charcoal 88 camaro clear coat was kind of peeling too. But sincerely, nice ride, specially with this type of wing make's it UNIQUE

Was looking at your RPO and I think that the WW4 aero package can cover this spoiler option?

Re: Hawk's 5 inch spoiler on a vert?!?

Thanks. I like black cars - I have 2 others - 94 Formula and 69 Camaro - http://www.thesherwoodgang.com/cars/. I just have to get one of them finished

I don't know for sure about the RPOs. Some of the RPOs are not clear as to what they could have included. As these become more sought after, I'm sure more research will be done and maybe it will be cleared up. I have seen other WW4 cars and they have the normal spoiler.
