Extra Rain Issues?

So, I've been told this is 'normal'. sooo, maybe somone can confirm/deny

But i've never seen a leak in my top. Maybe a drip from halfway up the drivers side pillar. but pretty much nuthin. well, we just had that big rain come through the east coast here. and first two days i didn't see a problem, then we got almost another 2 days of heavy rain. (this whole time the top was up and windows up)

I when to get in my car on sat night, and it was SOAKED!!! like, it took 4 BIG bath towels to get it as dry as i could (which of coarse is still damp). Now, i looked all around, and i couldn't find a leak.

So i'm told, after so long, the top becomes saturated and will just start allowing the rain through. Like an old tent i guess.

again... can anyone confirm/deny?

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

I have never heard anything about it but that does sound logical to me. Especially if the top is old.

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

The material that the top is made out of is not supposed to let rain through it no matter how much it has been rained on.

I think either way, i'm hitting up the camping store and getting that spray on stuff that you use on tents to make them more water resistant. *sigh*

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

You should try sitting inside the car and having someone run a hose at the top for a bit. With heavy rain and winds maybe it was coming in somewhere the water normally wouldn't get to.

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

Ive noticed on my car, if I park it on un-level ground, the body twist and creates leaks/gaps that arnt there on level ground. Same with a friends T-Top car.

As well like SS said. If it was windy, it may have been blowing at an angle to find a gap, move the top around to create gap, etc etc.

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

I appreciate the responses guys.....

Not convinced it's due to a specific leak. Only because the entire interior was SOAKED. not just a corner or something.

But, either way, i guess i'll be spending the night in my car next big storm. lol

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

I've never had a wet interior or noticed water ever penetrating through the top. But I've only had the car in light rain, not as much rain as your car experienced or for that length of continuous time.

Re: Extra Rain Issues?

I have a prob with the back bow under the plastic window. If it rains and theres bad wind it will blow water up under the w/stripping. I see alot of rain here. The only other thing is if the door wasnt shut tight. It could drove the rain in

FICTION,I have been doing convertible top's for almost 20 years now and have never seen or heard of this. The top's are made with 3 layer's,the middle layer is a water proof material.
I can tell you of a way to find out where the water came in.
With the window's and top up turn the AC on full blast, take a spray can glass cleaner and spray it accross the front header, the around the door glass, and accross the rear,if you get bubble's that's where your leak is.And you would be supprised just how much water will come in from one little leak.
