I wanted to lower my car but wan't a very agressive drop about 1.5inch or more and eibach prokit or hotchkis lowering kits lower it 1inch. The eibach sportline kit advertises 1.5inch or more depending on application but it also says it will not work on a vert, why is that? I have read that on summitracing and the eibach website.I posted this thread on chassis/suspension category and someone told me that verts weigh more, can it be the springs can't handle the extra weight. If anyone knows of any other kits that can give me that kind of drop im looking for would be great.I found a good deal on the sportline kit so I might just be trying it and see what happens.

Verts do weigh more, the SFC's add some weight and then you have the frame and some extra Parts...
The problem is the rear wheelwells have been modified by ASC. If you peek up under your rear quarter panel you will see that the top of it looks flattened down a little. If you look at a Hard top car you will see that it is more round.
In short I think it has to do with tire clearance.
I think the coolest thing to do is actually get Air Bags and then for show you can lower the car, and for go you can raise it up to its natural stance... Best of Both worlds

I'm running those springs. With 4 adults in the car, the rear tires will rub over a big bump

my 1992 Z28 vert with sportlines
not the best pics. but the tires to botom out on the tops of the wheel wells sometimes. doesnt bother me. its worth the extra trouble. just like longtubes on a lowered car. people still do it

I think I can live with the tires rubbing once inawhile I dont like driving with too many passengers anyways.Jer4251 your car looks great, I have a 91 z28 vert same colour and same wheels but needs a paint job not as clean as yours.
mine needs a paint job. it looks alright from a little distance. but the paint is shot on 1/2 the car, and scuffed up all over. it took some abuse while in storage for years, and the sun took its toll on the back 1/2. a paint job is in the future. along with a bunch of new parts to make it back to new

what size tires do you have on that red car?

I love the look of the drop, but even with my stock ride height I noticed the other day that my tires had rubbed the top of the fender wells when I had it on the lift to replace the rear brake shoes.
245/40ZR18's i believe.
id have to go check to be sure.

jer4251 I LOVE those rims. I am so getting some. How much did you pay for yours?

I've been running sportlines on my 'vert for years. In fact, I cut the fronts down even farther and on the rears I run a taller tire (27" - 295/35-19) With no problems other than a shiny fenderwell at the top.
I honestly never even felt the rubbing... I'd post pictures but I'm at work and photobucket is blocked.

Stiffer, obviously but no where near as stiff as I'd like.

I can shove a thumb between the tire and fender and that's about it.
I'm sure the spring rate isn't even over 750lbs/in; I'm looking towards weight jacks and 900+ lb/in springs.

I have seen that car on this site before, looks great. One of the nicest cars I have seen on this site and one of a kind that is tastefully done.
How much did you cut your springs,I'm replacing some of my front suspension components just ball joints, sway bar links etc I have my lowering springs out right now so I'm thinking about cutting them.Do you cut them with any older grinder? My cars been sitting for a year and I'v had my springs installed for months but haven't really drivin much with them on do you think they have settled by now or maybe I should wait, but since I have them out im 90% sure im going to cut them.Heres a crappy picture from my cellphone of my project.

Well I don't think I help Canadians...
Car looks good. Tires look narrow, and the wheels are fairly well tucked under the fenders so you can still go a considerable amount farther down. I think I cut a 1/3 of a coil with the intentions of cutting more but never got around to it. I used a die grinder with a cut off with pausing at times so it didn't heat up too much. You can use pretty much anything, even a sawzall/bandsaw or something as long as it doesn't heat the spring up too much.
EDIT; Where are you from? Are those Washington plates on the wall?

Washington plates that depends is it gonna help me to get help from you, haha yes they are Washington plates I'm from Vancouver,BC.I bought my car from a guy in Seattle he brought it from California I found some paperwork and receipts that show it was in California at one piont so that explain how rustfree it is.Also for the rear springs its hard to tell which side is taperd so if you can look at this picture and tell me which side to cut.The stance of my car is very important to me so thanks for the help.
one side will have the coil flattened at the end, or maybe thats just the fronts. you can tell what end is what by looking at them. the small coil ends are the bottoms, that fit perfectly on the rear end mounts, tops are normal all the way up. im guessing you cut from the top.
so it would be point 2. you dont want to cut the bottom
but i wouldnt do any cutting until after you start driving the car, you may like the way it feels and looks. with my sportlines, i scrape the front everywhere. our cars are really low to begin with.

Your car looks to be sitting pretty good not to low or high that's the kinda look I want. Are your springs cut or just been driven on a lot.I scrape every time I pull out the garage because my whole property is on a slant and the pavement leading up to the garage is a little steep.I'm always going to have that problem when your car scrapes is it the under carriage or your tires rubbing.

You guys have the same car!Like was said, cut from the top of the spring; but in the picture I think that's point 1.
I'd never go airride, but that's just me.
When I scrape it's the subframe connectors, exhaust or airdam depending on angle of the road or what I'm hitting. I never get *noticeable* tire rub but that's because the bumpstops hit before then. My bumpstop pads in the rear are shiny as hell.
Are bump stops located on the rear diff or a different part.I have never looked for them but I'm in the middle of swapping a 88iroc posi with disc brakes into my 91 and it doesn't have any bump stops.I don't really know what they look like I guess I'll look tomorrow.
Haha yes our cars are almost identical but not for long still deciding on what colour to paint it I always liked black.

Iansane is your car a 2 seater, with the cut lowering springs hows the ride with 4 passengers,I don't mind if a little rubbing occurs with that many passengers on a bump or a turn,I forgot to think about all the potential ladies that might be riding in the car.I know someone with a older muscle car thats lowered and has leaf springs in the rear and it scrapes alot with 4 or 5 passengers and I don't want my ride to be like that.
if your going to be hauling people around, its not pratical. evern sportlines would be a little much, you dont want to bend your frame from all the weight in the car. put the top down, open the doors, and get a good look at how much " stuff" isnt there supporting the cars frame. these cars are suppose to be fun/show cars, not 4 seaters.

Yea that's a really good point when the top is down and if i had one corner of the car up to do some work I could really tell how easy the frame bends my door didn't even line up one time from having one corner in the air.
i dont even like taking 1 person with me in any of my lowered cars. if i knew what to do with the rear seat space, i'd tear my rear seats out, they never get used.

Yea I guess if you wanted to do some weight reduction you could get rid of the seats and some other uselss parts. Or if your into car audio stuff you can build a nice subwoofer enclosure with some amps with that kind of space.
I'm guessing your not though because your car looks good enough to be in original condition.I might try something like that in the future with my car, it's nothing near good condition but it will be original in other ways haha. And that doesn't mean I'm throwing a ugly extreme body kit on it.
