Replacing plastic convertible window

From: I live in a small city about 15 miles south of Los Angeles named Wilmington.
Car: 1991 Chevy Camaro RS Convertible
Engine: 5.0
Transmission: Automatic
Replacing plastic convertible window
Can I simply remove the old worn-out plastic window on my convertible top? If it is possible, where can I buy, or order one?

Take the car to an auto upholstry shop. They have the heavy-duty sewing machine needed to sew in a new plastic rear window. This isn't a do-it yourself project.

Ditto the above. This is not a job you will want to try without the equipment to do the stitching. Get a price for this from a local shop and then ask them how much it would be to replace the top as well as the window. You may find it better to do the whole job at once. I sewed my window when the threading began to undo itself. My fingers are still sore and that was five years ago!

You're right, I should get the whole top replaced. Alot of the sewing is starting to come off. So thanks for the tip. I have a stay-fast cloth top, do you think my Camaro will look good with the cheaper vinyl kind? Thanks.

Sure, just keep the top down all the time since you live in SoCal. It will only look like you went cheap on the install when you have the top up.

Personally, I like the cloth tops. They offer good sound proofing and I think they wear better. I had a vinyl top about 30 years ago and never liked it. My opinion, stick with the cloth.

The vert I just got has a NEW Vinyl top and I hate it. As said above it just looks like **** !
but i couldn't pass the price up on the car itself to just not get it because of the top.
I do regret giving away a stock canvas top in part of the deal and not reusing that. Ohh well this one will deff. be coming off and getting a Stayfast canvas with glass.

It cost me approx $300 to have it done in my 87 Vette a few years ago. I had it done when I had a 92 Camaro Vert for about $250. I had a whole new top put on my 91 Trans Am for $900. If the rest of your top is in decent shape, then go for the window, otherwise definately worth it for a new CLOTH top.
