I just joined the vert club
I just picked up an 88 RS today with an LT-1 swap. It came with a new bumper cover, fender, and chin spoiler. It's not the prettiest at the moment but it has ZERO rust and a 100% complete interior. I just drove it home over 100 miles and it runs and drives great! Even the A/C is all hooked up.
Was $1800 too much to give for this?

Thats a good price. They are selling for around 3k to 5k in AZ (Not running.) It looks like the hard to find parts are there...

Re: I just joined the vert club
Yeah, I knew it was a steal. The swap looks like it was done pretty good. I really want to clean up the engine bay and hide the wiring, but that will come in time.
It was originally an L03 car in the gun metal gray color. It was repainted silver at some point. The GFX are mismatched. It has the 91-92 lower pieces on the sides but the earlier pieces on the doors. The good chin spoiler I got with it is the earlier style and I think I'm going to ditch the newer lower side pieces and go back with what it's supposed to have. I haven't decided on color yet but it needs a complete repaint. The driver door needs the pins replaced but over all it's a very solid car. The first order of business is to get all of the suspension freshened up and give it a wicked stance along with a new set of rims/tires. I'm still debating on which direction I'm going to go with the wheels. I'm really leaning towards nothing chrome or polished anywhere on the car.

Yeah, I was wondering about those pieces. I've never seen them before. But then, I don't know much about verts. I'm thinking about taking them off. The passenger door is tight with no sag and the door piece doesn't line up. The driver door has about 1" of up and down play in it.

Nice find! Yah, I think that was a great deal - I paid $1800 for my '90 RS, all stock, with the LO3, but in a little bit better condition. You got more motor for the same money. Good luck with your 'vert!

Re: I just joined the vert club
The car is actually in VERY good condition compared to what there is available around here. It had a little damage to the nose cone and fender, but that has already been fixed. It came with replacement parts. It's actually in WAY better shape than my 91 bird was when I got it and it has several "goodies" already on it. All the steering components, front brakes, etc... are all either brand new or recent and it has Koni yellows on it.

Re: I just joined the vert club
Youre not kidding! Look on craigslist, theres one with a couple of TV's and 22 inch rims here ($3,800) and a '90 IROC vert ($7,500)
Meanwhile, '91 Z-28 with just under 100k miles sells for $1250.oo.

Kinda shows where the value is, Huh?

Nice! An LT1 swap alone would probably cost the same as what you paid for the whole car. Got any pictures of it with the top up?

Re: I just joined the vert club
Nope, I handed the guy the cash, got the title, dropped the top, and drove it home. I haven't put the top back up. It's sitting in my garage in pieces right now undergoing it's transformation. I don't think I'll ever put the top back up unless I get caught in a rainstorm on the road.

Re: I just joined the vert club
Honestly, maybe it's because of the color, and the engine swap gets major points, but I think it looks WAY badass in its current condition
Good deal!

It looks like a great sleeper with the LT1. People at a red light might think it's just another beat V6 Camaro until you open it up.........

As soon as I get the brakes bled out I'll pull it out of the garage and snap some pics. I just have to wait for the new front brake lines to come in the mail.

Re: I just joined the vert club
I finally have time to start working on the car again. I have a build thread going in the "Body" section.
Here's how she looks today:

I really haven't touched it in about 7-8 months. Work has had me really tied up. But, I have a good bit of time now and I've gotta get it ready for the spring.

Re: I just joined the vert club
No, I just took it off when I put the new fender on. I haven't put it back on yet because I'm looking for the 85-90 style to match the rest of the pieces on the car. If I can't find any by the time I'm ready to paint then I'll modify the 91-92 pieces that I have to line up with the original pieces on the doors.

I just picked up my first 3rd gen 87 vert for $1600 but it needs a ton of work , was parked 11 years ago with 51,xxx km on it after a wire fire , just going to swap parts from my ht and 4th gen interior. Yours is a hell of a find for sure but I like the 91/92 GFX

Welcome to the club. Good luck. I have been searching off and on for almost two years with no luck. My plan at the moment is to use the one I have for the drivers door and make a mirror image of it for the passengers door.

I know of a couple early 3rd gens that are being scrapped, I will try to get by and check on the pieces for you
