New Member-New to me Vert

Hey TGO! I'm a new member here, but not new to thirdgens.

I had my first thirdgen when I was 17 it was an 86 iroc-z lb9 t-top car g80/w disk rear,It was a piece of work it had bigger injectors and work done to it,It was fast as heck,Paid $3,000 for it barely running with a burnt up engine harness and bad trans and a locked up caliper but I was in love with it,That car stayed in the shop more than at my house,so five 700r4 later I was fed up and basically gave it away for $1,000.

Now fast foward to now,I'm 30 and caught the bug again after I had to sell my 05 GTO to get a suburban for the family to ride in,but I always wanted another camaro but I told my self if I were to get another one it had to be a convertible,So for the past few months Ive been on the hunt!

Found one in Pa,it was an 87 vert lg4 car but a vin#2 car,But for the price ($1,300) I picked it up anyway knowing it wasn't really what I wanted, Being that it wasn't considered a factory vert but I figured I would work with it,But once I got it home I found lots of bad things,It was a rust free clean body but it had been wrecked bad in the front and I found damage in the rear as well,so needless to say I started looking again for a cleaner car.

So I looked and found another one,Sold the first (vin#2) car and got my money back out of it,and went to check out the 2nd car 1989 (vin#3) iroc-z lb9 auto car,it was alot closer to home too,it was advertise for $2,200 so I wasn't expecting it to be much better than the first one,So I checked it out and it was so clean especially for a car that had been sitting for what looked like years but it still looked good, the top was shot from sitting and was leaking so I was worried about rust, And It has rust but not bad I think,Rear floors under seat was rusted through and it had rust inside the rear wheel well but that was it, everything else was spotless.
So come to find out its a two owner car that has never left Maryland with what looks to be low miles.

So I stuck a deal with the guy at $1,700 and brought it home,Got it home and looked it over even more and its a really clean car.We couldn't get it started at first but I put a new battery in it and it started right up,so I cleaned it out some and found what everyone wants to find in an old car,I found all the paper work for when the car was bought new with the owners manual and convertible top book and all warranty paper work, everything but the window sticker!I have every receipt for warranty work done at the dealer and recalls and I mean everything, every oil change the whole nine yards.
Sorry for the long post but I'm so excited to be in a thirdgen again especially a Vert! WOOOOOOOOOOT!
plans as of right now are to fix the rust and por 15 everything and drive the wheels off of it,while I collect parts for a lsx/t56 swap! lol

Sorry I don't know how to post pics yet,but I will soon as I can.If anyone can help me with pics send me a pm plz,thx

Re: New Member-New to me Vert

Congrats man. i too just recently got my hands on my first vert. I've had 5 third gens now (and still own three, the other two were parts cars, to which i sold one to someone who rebuilt it).

i searched and struggled to find this car, and actually get my hands on it for over ten years. every time i got close something happened and the deal fell through, or i had to back out for whatever reason. but i finally got it. my conditions were a little more specific (90 IROC or 91-92 Z28, with 92 Z28 Preferred). found my 92 Z28 Vert about 450 miles away fought with the dealership for about 2 weeks to send me the info i requested and finally drove down and then drove it home. had just over 100K miles when i bought it and in very well kept condition. i paid alot more for mine then you did for yours but given how long i've been trying to get my hands on it, it being what i wanted (except the auto trans) and the condition i felt it was very worth it.

wish you the best of luck with yours in the future. always good to see a fellow thirdgen enthusiast and another Vert.

below is a picture of my Vert.

Re: New Member-New to me Vert

best thing is to get an account with a picture storage website. i use photobucket. once the pictures are uploaded, click them to get them to there largest size, then right click and copy image URL. then when you come back here and reply right above the box you type in to reply there is a tool bar. one "tool" looks like a yellow picture with maybe a moon over mountains. click that and then copy your URL into the box that pops up. it will automatically insert the need BB Code to make it show up in your post. then just post and it should show.

Re: New Member-New to me Vert

Thats the car I wanted back in 1990 and finally bought a black 89 iroc t-top 350 car fully loaded including the bose speaker system. That was in 1991 and have owned a 3rd gen ever since. Three years ago I finally found a triple black 92 Z vert north of Dallas and bought it. I have four 3rd gens at the moment and have had a lot more but can't seem to stay away from them. I have two corvettes including a 1990 ZR-1 with 430RWH but I always drive my 92 Z vert. Your car really is the car I looked for for two or three years before buying the 89 Iroc. There just aren't that many convertibles and I am picky about what I want so it took me about 20 years to find what I wanted that was the right color and rust free. Enjoy that thing because it is rare and awesome. Many people like to swap in LS motors these days but our cars are getting to the age that the original engines are worth keeping in the back of the garage. I have the original engines to all of mine but I have a 350 almost ready for the vert. Keep us posted of what you do to it. I put in a 9 bolt posi with 89 pbr rear disc and 327 gears. I also swapped the seats to black GTA lumbar seats and a 145 speedo. I have bose kick panels with infinity kappas installed and 6.5s kappas in the rear panels. Luckily mine had ZERO rust and when I put in new carpet I got five cans of 3M rubberized undercoating and coated it good so I will not have to worry about rust again. I figured out how to fix the rear spoiler properly so it will not fly off. I also installed a relay that allows the fog lights to stay on when the bright lights are on. I just installed an aluminum air dam that is slightly bigger to help keep it cool along with a be cool 62015 radiator. I put 88-90 Iroc wheels on it since they are my favorite. They are just so much fun to spend money on and one of the cheaper cars to own. Try buying anything for a LT-5 engine. A water pump is close to 300 dollars. Head gaskets are almost 200 bucks.

I saw ---this black 89 IROC vert--- for sale in MD and assumed you snapped it up. I like yours better, it appears to be much more original, not to mention a much more reasonable price. Congrats on a nice car!
