2 years ago, I paid 1900 installed with the plastic window. Excellent work. Maybe a little high but that is about the going price in the Chicago area.

Ouch! You're less than a half hour from me. I'm think I'm gonna' do my own. Been researching it here and elsewhere online and it seems a little tedious/time consuming/hard work but not difficult/involved. A primo one w/a glass window is about $500. I'm an old cheapskate!

Don't remember off hand but it was most likely a Oklahoma warranty. You know, "If you break it in two parts, you still own both parts." or maybe even the good ole "30, 30"

Re: How much does it cost to have the top replaced?

I just bought a top off eBay from Tops Online and it was $379. It is the cloth one with a plastic back window, and comes with the new cables and pads. I opted for a plastic back window because I like the size and my top is origanal and has never been taken care of and it really doesn't need to be replaced the back window is just a little cloudy. I will take care of the new one and I expect it to last the life of the car. There are cheeper one but I opted for one from a good seller and it came with free shipping. They also sell one with a glass back window for $479 or $519 w/the cables and pads and that inclunes shipping. The shop is charging me $300 to install it but they are also recovering my seats and installing carpet I bought. I am a fare mech and I tell you installing a top scares me to death. Ebay is the place to buy a top I surched the internet and scowered this form and did the best on eBay. I am even buying from the same place as others but he is selling it on eBay. He has good feed back and the product still comes with the warentee. I will let you know how it works out in a couple weeks when it comes and it is installed. Anouther reason I am paying for it to be installed is he has done many and if he messes up it is his proublem and he has to make it rite. If I mess up or there is a problem it is completly on me. I can blame no one, and there isn't a garentee.

I too have been quoted around $1900 for a new top installed. Curious, how much are they charging you to have your seats recovered? I have leather interior in my 91, which is in excellent original condition except the drivers seat is very worn and cracking. I am thinking about having all the seating re done, as I feel it will look off if I have just one done. What are you beeing quoted to have the seats and carpet done?

Re: How much does it cost to have the top replaced?

I am having the seats redone in vinal that looks and feels like leather but wears better. He is charging me $300 a seat. I had one shop quote me $450 for leather and it wasn't even the rite color grey. The carpet was $141 on eBay. I am having the shop install my top I bought the carpet I bought and the seats and he is charging me $1000. So for the top; ($369) the carpet ($141) and the seats I will have a brand new interior for under $1500. It is in the shop now getting repainted so I will basically have a new car. It does have 161k on the odometer but runs like a champ. I hope I have a few more miles befor I have to tackle that.
Gotta love 3rd gen convertibles. Hell I only paid $1900 for the car which is way under the going price. But I had cash, it was the off seasons for convertibles, and nothing is selling. Win Win for me

My husband just did our convertible top. Top cost $400, and turned out well. I'll have to find some pics of it.

Re: How much does it cost to have the top replaced?

after you learn how to do it... it only takes about 1 hr to install and about a day or so for the contact cement to fully cure... It's easy... Watch the "how to" video... BUT if you don't have an ASC then you may have to go to a upholstery shop to have it done.

Was easy... I will do a write up on it and post pic when I get a chance... but this video is 95% accurate.

Thanks for the referall Blake! I was about to say to the PO... look in my sig for links on how to do it yourself. At first I was thinking of sending mine into a shop but I just dove head first into it and I'm pleased with the result especially considering the money I saved. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
