1992 Trans am Convertible mini-restoration

I have some pictures I am going to put up here soon, but I recently picked up a 1992 Trans Am 305 TPI auto WS6 black on black on black convertible and wanted to start a thread.

It looks to be 1 of 662 in 92 and 1 in 1xx in black. Pretty cool It only has 73,600 miles on it and a lot of it shows like a low mileage car, while other parts don't. Needs paint work on the hood/front bumper/rear spoiler is slightly loose, has small dents all around it, top of rear seat is cracked, antenna didn't work, timing wouldn't advance, i-pipe was split all the way down it, guge cover cracked, airbag rubber hanging out, headliner material loose, etc. Also, the previous owner broke the drivers ground effect on the door trying to get it off of the trailer, etc

This build is TOTALLY different than my Iroc. All stock, nothing aftermarket if I can help it, and on a tight budget, since the blue car is still getting some final touches.



I have taken some pictures and fixed a few things so far. I will get up the pictures soon, but here are a few teaser pictures until I start posting up things I've fixed etc.
One thing that is interesting is this car was manufactured in September of 1992!(I think). That is very late for a 92. Also, it has the silver TB plate that doesn't have tuned port injection on it, the black valve covers, and the cast runners, that was said to be over stock from the Corvettes. I wonder was it on of the very last 92 verts?

I can put up the VIN if anyone is interested. I think I have a picture with the RPO codes on it as well.

It is bone stock and I plan on doing everything I can to keep it that way.

I'm in the exact same position as you are with this build. I love love love your TA... Just looks mean black on black. Guess we are pretty lucky guy to have the best of both world haha!

Where did you find your rarity for color combo at? I need to find how many Z03 convertibles were made in black w/ red.

I have wanted me a vert for a WHILE. Finding one in good shape with lower miles and not spending $8,000 plus is getting harder and harder!


The 662 number is all over the place for 1992 TA vert numbers. I found a thread about 1992 TA vert numbers on here smewhere and it had a breakdown for colors. I THINK his name on here is ozfoz(I hope he replies to this thread. He seems to be WAY UP on Firebird statistics in general!)

First, that's a nice Trans Am! I've got the red and gold version but with the 5-speed. I, too, have the blank TPI plate as well as black valve covers.

Second, where did you find information that suggested your car was manufactured in Sept of 1992? I ask because the final day for the Van Nuys Assembly plant was August 27 1992 and they were in the process of actually moving stuff out as the last ThirdGen was being built. Compnine shows your car as being built on 1992-07-09. Your car was a few weeks after mine as mine was built in June.

You're right it was July 1992. The ASC sticker also says July 1992.


I'd like to see pictures of yours too. Do you have the cast runners too?

I used compnine to breakdown my RPO's but says the rarity information is not available for my 92. Strange. So maybe you should post up some pics of that beast already

Very nice !! Years ago I sat in one just like this on a car dealer lot but I just got my low mile GTA and wasn't ready for another car but looking back sometimes I wish I would have bought it , it was just like yours triple black , again very nice !!!

Yes, I sold it to my uncle. A lot of little repairs have been done


I have replaced the back seat back(repair)
-got the nose and rear painted.
-Repaired the gauge cluster.
-Replaced the drivers side ground effect that was damaged.
-fixed the headlight motors.
-fixed the electric antenna



Coming along nicely.


I will get some updated pictures soon. She has been resting in the enclosed trailer the last few months.
