hi all have just joined here and thought i would say hello have just bought a 1989 trans am gta convertible 5.7 tpi which i belive to be quite a rare car it has been stood up for a while and i will be restoring it back to its former glory new roof respray ect so will need alot of help along the way as im 24 and will be doing it all myself bought it as a non runner as the bloke couldnt get it started so got it in the garage turned out to be wire off the starter now its got no spark atall took the distributer off rotor is turning but the pick up coil looks rusty as hell so thinking about getting the hypertech coil cap rotor pick up coil and ignition module when i do get to restoring it would you guys try to keep it as original as you can like the asc stickers and gta badges would you get new or keep the original badges and the writing is wearing off the asc sticker would you keep the original sticker or get a new one made any help or info would be much appreciated

 

I need new ASC stickers also. Look on ebay and they have great deals on brand new distributors. You can get them for $60 bucks shipped to your door. Thats what I did and also got a better coil and the hot orange spiro taylor wires while I was upgrading that area. Your car is one of the best investments you will ever have. GTAs are awesome and since all of our cars are approaching that magic antique status (25 years old) you will only have to buy new license for it one more time. Post pics.

I have added black GTA interior (car is factory triple black) console with factory clock, triple gauge pod with bowtie gauges, kenwood deck with 10 disc changer and infinity kappa speakers including bose kick panel, dash plates and rear 6.5 speakers. It has a 9 bolt posi 3.27 with PBR rear disc, aluminum drive shaft, 140 speedo, be-cool rad with taurus fan, cs144 alternator, optima battery in rear, light relay that allows high, low and fog lights to be on at same time, 0 gauge wire for main wiring and #4 wire from alternator to power junctions, trans cooler with remote filter. I have a new 350 roller motor waiting heads and cam to go in. I also have a new top and weatherstripping with glass window ready to install when I paint it. It has a 350 factory steel 1pc crank, 6 H beam rods with forged Mahle pistons. After the motor I will paint it and drive the @#$%^& out of it.

 

very nice mate sounds quite a machine when done do the gears make alot of differance do thay whine much wondering where to start on mine might start on the underneath take all parts off shot blast them new brakes calipers shocks springs and treat everything else with por 15 and spray the whole underneath got to start somewhere

 

Find a 9 bolt if you can. Many will argue to stay 10 bolt but the 9 bolt is stronger and a better design.

Cool find BTW, your car is 1 of the 142 known GTA's or Trans Ams Convertibles with the 350...
