Hello, I am new to the forums I recently purchased my midlife crisis, a car that I have wanted since since highschool. A nice red 91 Z28 vert with a 5 speed, the car is in pretty good shape except for the trunk lid rubbing against the tonneau cover. I read a few posts on this issue but I still cannot slide (adjust) the lid back? does the u brackets themselves have adjustment or do I need to beat them into submission? I will post pics of my restoration as time and money allow. Thank you for any help you can offer.

 

Look at how they adjust. You may need to take them apart and grease them or oil them since they are getting old. Remember that you can adjust the trunk at the hinges and the striker. I havent looked at where you adjust the tonneau. My midlife crisis is a triple black 92 25th.

 

 

4 bolts on the trunk lid on my 90 midlife crisis, I just loosened them and yanked the lid back, snugged up.

 

Thanks tried that but I'm pulled all the way back and I still need 1/4 of an inch to line up correctly? Nice vert

 

You can do the old trick of getting a drill bit and grinding the holes a little oblong to get more clearance.

 

Does the tonneau need to come forward ? - check the alignment.

 

There's a spring located under toneau. If you open trunk you can see it right behind toneau. If a bolt comes loose it will be misaligned. i know because it happened to mine.

 

Thanks trans am 82-92 I will check the guy I bought it from said the trunk needs to come off to put the top down? The tonneau seems to be in the right spot. He said they used it a lot for parades and I figure maybe all the weight messed something up?

 

I read that if the shocks were bad it could affect adjustment so I guess I should order those as well

 

Don't drill anything. Something is misaligned. adjust the tonneau and deck lid. It takes time to get just right.
