Very late 92 verts don't have a pull down type, they used a slam style.

Re: Are convertible trunk lid pulldowns and latch the same as the hatchbacks?

year for year they are the same AFAIK. The 87-90 are the large type, and then somewhere in 1991 or 92 there was a smaller pull-down assy to accomodate the slam style. I accidentally pulled a 92 style pull-down and the mounting was way way different than my 87

I have a 92 vert slam assembly. If I were to switch the latch on the trunk lid would that work on my 89 vert?If so does the plunger switch that prevents the tonneau and trunk from opening at the same time still have a place in this setup?

The welded brackets for the large pulldown is completely different than the slam version. You could swap them out, but you would have to remove the existing brackets and then weld in brackets from a later car.

For the pulldowns, they are the same. I got into mine yesterday. All it needs is a new housing and guides.

Re: Are convertible trunk lid pulldowns and latch the same as the hatchbacks?

Here is a little history
Latch 1 - Slam style 1982-1985
Pulldown style 1 - 1986 thru 1991 sn 240931 (Firebird) & 173201 (Camaro)
Pulldown style 2 - 91 (240932 & UP - Firebird) (173202 & UP - Camaro) & 1992

The slam style for the Convertible started at 240932/173202 as well

Hope this helps

Guts for the pull down motors are plentiful and cheap at Junkyards. Just find full-size Buick and Cadillac trunk pull downs. Mine has parts from a Deville in it, working perfectly for over a year now of almost daily use.

Correct for 86- early 91 convertibles and coupes. Mid 91 the pull-down unit for the coupes changed to a completely different type. The gear nut, wave washer and bearing were the only parts that carried over from the prior design. For the mid 91 convertinles they seitched to a slam latch for the trunk.

My 92 TA vert was manufactured in January 1992 and has the slam type trunk latch.
