87 ASC GM's Official Start Date Month/Day
I have an all original 87 ASC 20th Anniversary IROC-Z & I purchased the car "new" in early 88 from a Chevrolet Dealer that had ordered the car. It was being displayed proudly in the show room by the dealerships owner. The dealerships owner ordered the car with just about every option & was planning on keeping it as an investment till I convinced him to sell to me in early 88. From the info I got from the dealerships owner @ the time I purchased the car, I always knew it was a early ordered ASC GM factory car. Just could never confirm this! Just knew it was a 87 limited production car! I just recently got the build sheet from GM Media Archive Vehicle Invoices & got the invoice date & it was one of the early models! Does anyone have the start date that GM officially started accepting orders & production start date for these special 87 ASC 20th Anniversary cars? Any information would be great!

I have an 86 vert z28 special edition , What do you want to know . This is supposed to be the very car from the magazine article that featured the 86 camaro convertible vs 86 mustang convertible .

86's and all of the 87 Special Editions were different. The car above was factory ordered yours and the other SE's were done through a promotion ASC was offering to dealers which stopped after the factory started offering them.

That’s really awesome if you have the prototype/promotional car that was used! I have that magazine you mentioned! Lol.. Bur I really wanted to find out the exact date that GM officially started building GM/ASC factory ordered cars with the 6th digit vin is a #3 showing its a factory option!

Awesome , I lost the magazine years ago, which one is it and which month ? If I ever get this car painted and looking nice , I want to take it to shows with that magazine on display . What do you think the value of my car is ? The whole car doesn't need to be painted just where the clear coat faded or whatever .

I have some magazines, I’ll look them up & send some info & pictures! Value of the car I’m not sure. It all depends on what a collector or special car purchaser is looking for, even though it’s not an officially licensed GM car, it does have a story behind it!! As long as you can provide the documentation & prof. I believe you have a super special rear car & documenting iit is the key!! Prototype or test type cars sometimes are very valuable!

Here is the magazine, the one with the Mustang vs IROC-Z but that was a 87 magazine. I have the 86 first release magazine with the article on the ASC Convertible but that was a different car with the black painted windshield frame.. see my pictures

@PurelyPMD tit seems the program continued in '87 for a short time after the official program began for folks that wanted to order a color or configuration not available from the "factory" ordering process.
