Weatherstripping around window
I have a 91 Camaro and I'm in the process of replacing the weather stripping around the driver and passenger window doors. I'm on my second set. My first set I returned as the drivers side did not fit well and the passenger top piece split after only a few days. My 2nd set, purchased from Eckers on Ebay, is made by Softseal and the fit isn't much better for the top pieces. The top pieces' "lip" tends to get caught down when I close the door. I've tried adjusting the window both in and out. The window stop is in lowest position so the window can't go any higher if that makes any sense. I even took some rubber hose and wrapped it around the window stop "rod" to add length and shorten up the traveling of the window up. This sort of helped, but now the front of the window doesn't seal at all. Anyone else have this issue and/or a solution? I'm really stuck and lost here. Even my upholstery shop was scratching their heads saying "that's how it goes with an aftermarket convertible"....

Re: Weatherstripping around window
Not a Camaro but I bought an aftermarket seal on my bronco and the fit was horrendous. I'm planning to replace the piece with a a Ford part soon. I'm planning to replace my top soon and I'll be needing to checkout the seals and possibly replacing some.

I bought this one. Seems to be high quality, Made in USA, fit is very good.
It's Gold Series Sponge Supersoft by Metro. 15 year replacement warranty. Price on eBay was great and included the 7th seal.

These on ebay by AM Parts appears to be the same ones made by Soft Seal, which is what I've tried twice and have not fit well at all.

Re: Weatherstripping around window
I ended up ordering the SuperSoft set by Metro, which coincidentally is from Minneapolis and the reps are only a few miles from me down the road. The cost was around $180 from A1 Auto, which is around 3x the price as the SoftSeal brand found mostly on Ebay. The SuperSoft is a completely different style with a pad that the window closes up against as opposed to SoftSeal's version that has a "lip" that the window is supposed to go into.
I installed the new pieces and and to undo all the window adjustments I made the first time around (a real pain as the July heat has set in). Seems like a much better fit, although now the top header around the windshield doesn't match and I'll probably have to replace that next.
More to come on all this, I guess.

Crappy aftermaket parts take a lot of the joy out of old car ownership. You would thing for a CAMARO they would get it right! I wonder how aftermarket w-strip, carpets, etc. fit on vintage Mustangs, since they are THE most "supported" cars in Amercia.

To be clear, you examined SoftSeal and did not like it. Installed SuperSoft by Metro and found it satisfactory?
I have had weatherstrip aggravation and want to order good stuff! I telephoned Steele Rubber, who is probably the oldest aftermarket WS supplier, and Paul there told me their 89 Camaro Vert WS is made by Metro. Paul said Metro is good and holds to Steele standards. I have used Steele in the past w/ good results.
Thanks.

Re: Weatherstripping around window
You are correct. The SoftSeal fit was not good something to avoid.
SuperSoft by Metro is the way to go, even though it is somewhere like three times the price of SoftSeal. You get what you pay for. The window squishes up against the weatherstripping, which I think is more the norm for a door/window without a frame around it. There is one caveat that I haven't quite nailed down yet: after spending hours on this project adjusting the windows and trying make the SoftSeal kit fit, I had to take a break for my own sanity. I then installed the SuperSoft and noticed the alignment mismatch with the header. As I mentioned before with the windshield header, I recommend getting the complete kit from Metro SuperSoft (top rails and header) so you have a better change of the pieces all lining up together. I have not yet got to this point yet so my theory isn't quite yet tested.

(4) Roof Rail Seals: Rubber seals that attach to the sides of the convertible top frame
(1) Rear Bow Seal: Seals the rear of the convertible top bow to the body of the vehicle

Laurel. Based on my lifetime of working on cars, including 25+ years of training and experience in the Auto Repair Business, I know aftermarket parts can sometime be pretty bad. Especially weatherstrip, which is not easy to manufacturer correctly. Poorly fitting WS can cause the installer to waste HOURS and get an unacceptable result.
If you ever offer METRO for all 7 parts in the kit, please advise. In the meantime, I will have to look elsewhere.

Re: Weatherstripping around window
In my experience, the only way to go if you care about fit and alignment of panels is to spring for nos gm parts...getting original parts for your weatherstripping is definitely worth the extra cash in my opinion.
