I am looking to get a new top installed on my 1989 Camaro. I am wondering about the fitment of my top compared to others. I have attached photos below of the B pillar bow width and of how the top sits near the B pillar. Measuring my top along the B pillar Bow as the diagram on topsonline states it comes in at 51 3/4" wide, but the top does make a sharp angle down where the B pillar is. Just in front of the B pillar bow the top measures 51 1/4", which makes me think I need a 51" wide top. My window just barely clears/touches the top when I open and close the door so I think the 52" wide top would be to wide. I also called topsonline and he believes a 51" top would be the one to go with but before I drop $700 for a new top I want to make sure I am getting the correct one.
Also, where my top is glued to the B pillar, the seam sits way back, which looks like it should be farther forward on my B pillar. Do your tops look like this where it meets the B pillar? Also has anyone replaced their top with measurements similar to mine? If so, could you point me in the right direction for what top to get?
Thanks for your help in advance. Here are some photos of my top with a measuring tape.
I threw caution to the wind when I replaced my top and found, and worked with, a shop that knew what they were doing. They did an excellent job and as soon as I stopped worrying about all the potential "fit" issues, my stress level went way down. Cost me a little more but I got the satisfaction that the job (and fit) was right.
I paid about $350 for labor and was very happy with the work. I paid about $100 less back in 2004 at a different shop but also was a good job. Unfortunatly the gentleman that did that one died about 10 years ago and I went looking for another installer. Found this one in Pensacola.
