Subwoofer enclosure

I have an 89 vert camaro. The top is down 100% of time but don't want to remove it in case I ever get caught in rain. Saying that, as the top is down I assume having a traditional box in the well will not be a good option due to the top muffling the sound. Has anyone done anything such as a box in the space occupied by the unusable rear seats? I was thinking about gutting a seat-back and putting in one of those under seat boxes.

Any suggestions or recommendations for getting some bass ?

Re: Subwoofer enclosure

I used to have this in my spare tire well, but i eventually decided id rather have a spare instead.
So i switched to these two 10" subs instead. Its just a piece of wood that fits halfway down in the trunk on the little "shelves" on each side of the trunk. It's not as dedicated as a box, but they're more than enough for my needs

Virtually the same, the bass is'nt affected much. Maybe the high's a bit when the top is down since my 6x9s are right behind it, but i still have 5.5" speakers in the rear seat panels

Re: Subwoofer enclosure

Can you upload some photos of what you've done behind the seats. Surprised to hear that the subs are not affected by the top being down. I keep reading the sound is significantly impacted

Thank you for your input

Re: Subwoofer enclosure

That's about the only pic a i have of the subs. I haven't done anything behind the seats, just the trunk. The difference is mostly from the exposed interior when the top is down. Some of the bass goes outward, but even more noticeable is the higher frequencies are blocked because the top is literarily about 1" from the 6x9s. What does affect the subs/bass is if you open the trunk.
