Airdams....
What do the stock airdams look like??
I just made a homemade one with a truck mudflap cut in half.
just that little bit made a huge difference
before it ran at 225-230 on the highway
now it wont go above 195.
that was tested on a hot day.
Every camaro I looked at in the junkyard never had an airdam.
my home made one is the length of the rad crossmemeber. I screwed it into the xmember and the flap hangs down slightly and scoops in the air. is the stock airdam bigger than this?

Here is a pic of an orginal airdam after a year's use. I put an aluminum support behind it to "bend" if forward, but gave up the idea, and just buy a new airdam every year or so. A lot of people mistakenly remove this piece because it "scrapes" the ground when going up driveways and stuff.

Cool thanks! Mine is in the exact same place except it's at an angle pointing forward. I didn't think they woulda been pointing straight down like that, no wonder they get scrapped

I removed my airdamn 2 years ago and my IROC has never seen past 195*; even on the freeway on the humid summer days.

Hey i am dealing with a fairly warm running 91 rs 5.0 and i noticed while i was replaceing the fan motor (because it died yesterday on a 98*F day. 3foot fountain of coolant when i opened the hood.), while retrieveing a socket from below, that i don't have an air dam. My car seems to run up to the 240 mark on the highway at which point the overheat sensor kicks the fan on. I was wondering were i could buy an air dam, for how much and what kind of differance i might see.

Well, it just so happens I just changed mine. Go to your local Chev Dealer and ask for part #14083929 and that will be around $25. Well worth the bread.

Oh, I almost forgot. He said that this "Air Deflector" (air dam) fits 82 to 92 Camaros. I stand corrected. Good point, we should call parts by there proper name as much as possible.

NO, the air dams on the T-A's are quite a bit different that that of the camaros. the bird dams run across the entire width of the nose of the car and hang down about 3 or 4 inches, the kind of come to a point in the middle of the car and taper back as they move out to the sides of the nose.

One thing that confuses us is that we call this component an "air dam" of which there is no such part.
On the T/A's for example the cooling system consists of 3 main parts and none of them are called an air dam. So some people get confused on which part they are looking at or for.

You need all three but the extra wide strip at the bottom is the "least" critical.
