Would a Oil Cooler be allright to put on a daily driver/occasional racing Camaro

Hey

The car is a daily driver, I sometimes go to the track to do some 1/4 mile runs. Would it be alright to put a oil cooler on the car, or would the oil be to cool.
The engine runs quite hot while inner city driving but runs cooler on the highway. I use 10W30 oil.

Thanks

It would be a good install. Your oil will be cooler and the viscosity wouldn't break down as fast. It would probably help keep the engine temps down during innercity also. Go for it is not going to hurt just help.Hope this is helpful.

Keep in mind that even when your water temp is 160 or 180*
the oil temp could easily be 240* or 250* or hotter.
Install an oil temp guage and you'll flip out on whats going on in your motor.
I just got my oil cooler , and waiting to install it.

All 350 iroc/z28's came with oil coolers stock, obviously they thought it was important enough to mandate it. I'm sure a bigger aftermarket one will cool a lot better but if your using a synthetic like mobil1 it actually protects better the hotter it gets. (obviously there is a point like 700degrees plus where it starts to break down, but I know its way up there before it actually starts to degrade in performance rather than increase.) Personally though, if it keeps the car cooler and the oil happy whatever.
Hope I don't sound like an *** everytime I post something everyone usually stops talking in the post and I'm tired so im not really gonna read what I'm thinking.

ok I dug up some info on the history board...
seems if your car came with the L98 it should come with the RPO..

B2L : PERFORMANCE PACKAGE & ENGINE PACKAGE V8 5.7LPFI

which consists of an oil cooler and some other stuff. People in the board are saying that from 87-92 (or 89-92, I forgot already) Some people didn't get oil coolers. Weird configurations were known to happen like that because of part availability, ie some irocs with 350s came with 115 speedos from the factory. Also some LB9s came with oil coolers stock they are saying. I thought it was only L98s so who knows.

In 1989........You could order an IROC-Z with a 350 motor and as an option you could order the performance option which gave you twin cats, 3.27 gear instead of 2.77, and an oil cooler

89 was the changover year for the 10bolt and it never had 2.77 or 3.27 gears (2.73 and 3.23) anyway there was stock irocs pre 89 with 2.77 gears and a factory oil cooler. I'm just saying there were weird configurations

Car: 1989 Iroc-z
Engine: 350 TPI
Transmission: Auto 700R4
Axle/Gears: 9 bolt - 2.77
i have an 89 iroc with a 350 tpi and i didnt come with the KC4 oil cooler or the N10 dual cats from the factory. it does have the 2.77 9 bolt rear end with disc brakes from the factory. i have put on a factory oil cooler and the dual cats, but they werent a factory item on my car. dont know why, it has just about every other option from the factory.
