170* thermo. PN
Yah i have a 160* in it right now ut i have read on the board and in books that the computer ritchens up the mixture untill 163* and where i live it is almost never above 40 right now and the car will never warm up. I have a new water pump and alluminum ratiador.(sp?) And I have a Hyperstat fan switch that comes on at 200 and off at 180 and i dont want the fans running all the time.
Well i ordered the thermostat and installed it, but theres a problem. now with my hypertech fan switch the fans turn on at 200* but the thermostat closes before the fans can cool the motor down enough to turn them off. so once the car reaches 200* the fans runn untill i turn the car off. can the thermostat be bad? what should i do cause i know that running the fans all the time will just kill them. help me out.

Running the fans will reduce thier life and also it will kill the alternator in short order. Thats why in other posts I do not recommend changing fan turn on temp or messing with anything other than a 195 stat. I have experminted with the different stats and fan switches and found that anything other than the factory setup is counterproductive. They took into account all the factors and designed the system for the least wear on all the system components. Stats vary in temp a few degrees, probably it would be better to raise the fan temp switch. If it's as cold up there as in this part of the state you will find a 170 is only gonna give you lukewarm heat at best. Duct temp is typically 40-50 degrees below stat temp once it's warmed up.

im running 50/50 or somethign close to that. when i put it in i had about 60 coolant and 40 water then i had to add soem water when i changed the thermostat. my big question is will the thermostat break in, or is it broken. iom also thinking that in the head where the tempo sensor is the temp is higher than at the top of the intake manifold where the thermostat is. any sugestions?

I personally run 180 t-stats in both my tpi cars and can vouch for saying u can go to cold :-) there are several parameters in the actual prom itself that need to see x tempature before they will act as they are supposed to so going below 180 and your going to start getting yourself inot trouble contrary to what popular opinion is...
if u plan on modifying your car picking up the proper prm burnign equipment isnt that expensive and if u start slowly and research things its not even that hard to do...
a far wiser plan of attack is modifying the fan on/off tempatures and sticking with a 180 or 195 range t-stat
my 2 cents and yes ive been there :-)
