universal aluminum radiator, need tranny cooler?
I'm ordering the Griffin 31x19 universal aluminum radiator, and it was recommended by a fellow third-genner that I buy the B and M seperate tranny cooler. He said to buy the biggest GVW rated one, but to stay away from their racing versions (I don't have many mods, so racing version isn't necessary). I have no reason to doubt him and he has been very helpful, but I figure and second opinion and the like never hurts. Thanks a lot guys,

ya get the one that isn't the racing version. its like rated at 26,000 GVW i think. it still has the slip on fittings..
a little tip when u install it though, (and this is for everyone not just you) if u have dual fans, try to install the cooler on the drivers side so that when u only have the primary fan going since it will be running alot more then the secondary fan most of the time. and that way u have air flowing through the tranny cooler keeping it even cooler. or u can do what i did and rewire your passenger side fan to be your primary and install the tranny cooler on that side. you don't wanna install a fancy tranny cooler and bypass your stock in rad. cooler only to have your trans run even hotter then before when u have no or little air flow..

I wouldn't get the B&M one. Its pricey. I got the flex a lite and it does great! Here's how I installed it. I used aluminum L-bar for the radiator and for the tranny cooler I used aluminum bolted it to the core support. Then I bolted the tranny cooler to the aluminum strips. You don't want to install the cooler on the radiator itself because you can risk damaging the fins and cores.

Just some imput from personal experiance. I would go with the B&M cooler for the extra money. Much better cooler in my experiance and I have run many different kinds. A cheap tip.... full size trucks normally have some nice tranny coolers that are almost identical to the B&Ms. I normaly get them for about $5 each at the junkyard, just be sure to flush them first.
