constant bubbles in overflow

Hey guys I replaced my water pump, filled radiator a couple of times time it was full, put the cap on, and filled the overflow tank to the "cold mark" a few times, until cold level was reached.

Well my question is, why do I constantly get little bubbles up into the overflow jar???? Did i not correctly get rid of any air pockets????

try to take off the radiator cap and start up your car (note: do this while you car is cold. Hot water to your face and body aint such a good thing) if theres bubbles and waht not forming and coming to the top when you look into the radiator then your possibly in trouble

Possibly a dumb question, but if there are bubbles, what does this mean. You said "in trouble", but in what way? Air in the system?

If you have bubbles forming in the radiator with the cap off, it can mean anything from a headgasket to a cracked head or block.

when i had bubbles in the tank it turned out to be a cracked head. ended up replacing both. and yes my water was mixing with the oil. i noticed a little bit of creamy light brown paste-like stuff on my oil filler cap. i knew i was in trouble.

i just started my car with the radiator cap open, refilled the overflow to cold mark, and no bubbles since.

the reason i did this was because i just put a new water pump on, and i think there was some air in the system.

But this water pump went on a new motor so I knew there was no chance of cracked heard or anything.

If the head, block, or the head gasket was cracked wouldn't the car be blowing white smoke? And if there were a problem with any of them, wouldn't he be loosing coolant, not getting bubbles? I think the smoke would be the first thing to look at for a crack problem. (knock on wood) I have never had a problem with any of them so I wouldn't know for sure.

It depends on how much water, and if it is just water. If you notice, depending on the weather, brand new cars will drip water out of the tail pipe. It is due to the fact that the exhaust is hot and the pipes are cold. All it is most of the time is condensation. But in your case it might be something more.

And when antifreeze burns the fumes are white, and have a sweet smell. You can also look at the plugs to find out. Coolant when it gets into the chamber will clean out any carbon that is there. If you talk to people that hotroded back in the 60-70's during the TRUE muscle cars, some of them put cut coolant down the carb to clean out the heads.

I know at work, we have had about 4 Chevy 6.2 diesels, come in for overheating and every single one of them had bubbles coming into the overflow jug, and every single one of them had a blown head gasket, cracked head, and cranked block. What is happening is on the compression stroke the compression is making its way to a water jacket and that is what is causing the bubbles to form in your jug. But hopefully the heads arent cracked your block is fine, and your heads arent warped and its just a blown head gasket.
