Hyper Tech 160 Fan Kick On

I installed my hypertech fan switch this weekend after it laying around for 9 months.

After taking the car for a drive, I noticed my guage was at 240 degrees. I poped the hood, and my ECM fan was on, but the one I wired to my fan switch wasnt running (dual fans). I grounded the wire going to it, and the fan kicked on. So my wiring works.

Anyone else have this problem???

Any other companys that make this part, and it actually work!!!

My cooloing fan has done about the same thing.I have an 84 5.0 and the fan was working great on then just stopped. I also have the Hypertech 160 degree switch. The fan will kick on if I turn on the AC but shuts back off when I turn off the AC.Temp gauge reading 220. I would say the switch is bad..anyone else? Ideas?

For any reference, I emailed hypertech direct, and this is a copy from my email, from hypertech........

We have a one year warranty on our fan switches as long as you have
the receipt of purchase. If so give our tech line a call at 901-382-8888
to receive a return authorization number to send the switch in for
exchange. Thanks Jim

Change the fan relays, they're known for making intermittent connections when they start getting old. I thought my Jet fan-switch went out but, found that the fan relay was sticking.

Gkk, my stock fan functions fine. It is my 2nd (aftermarket) fan that is not working. Brand new relay. I give it proper signal of what this sensor is to give, it kicks on. So the realy, and wiring is fine.

When you installed the Fan Switch did you use teflon tape or any other type of sealant on it? If you did, that might prevent the switch from grounding to the block.

Sorry for not updating.

No it was not the problem. It still had ground contact. The switch is bad, and I don't have 50 to spend on a new sensor. So in mean time, I have hooked up a manual switch to that fan for the lady to turn it on when needed.
