sounds like the heater core....
its like a small radiator.. when the heat is on, coolent flows thru it to warm up the air...
but when they go out, they dump coolent on the passenger floor space...

I've seen it before. Not a fun thing to change, but its not impossible.
9d1burd just went through this with his GMC Jimmy. He had the orange stuff and it stained his grey carpet.

Definately the heater core. I had one go out in my old Pontiac 6000 when I was in college delivering pizza. It sprayed coolant all over my feet and legs. That sucked. Definately don't drive it until you either fix it or bypass it. Find the coolant hoses going into the firewall, and get something like a U shaped brass pipe to route them into each other. Your heater won't work until you get it fixed. But if you bypass it, your car won't know the difference. Just be sure to add more coolant! It's summertime, so it shouldn't matter until you have time and money to fix it. Matt

Whatever you do, don't buy the "radiator leak fix" crap. If you know how to change oil, and install stereo speakers you'll have no problem changing your heater core. If you don't have one get a Hayne's or Chilton's Manual for your car, and follow the directions. It takes a bit of time if you've never done it before but I assure you with a little patience and 3 or 4 hours of free time you can get it done.
Yeah I remember when that happened to my car too. Just make sure you either shampoo the heck out of your carpets or replace it entirely otherwise it will stink. Also whatever you do don't go to a dealer to get it fixed, they'll kill your wallet with the labor cost.
