Check the hoses that connect to the heater core. The clamps may not be tight enough.

i just replaced one of the hoses and put new hose clamps on them. Is there any other component in that general area that has anti freeze running through it? And why would there be a pool of anti freeze on the floor, if just the clamps were loose. but I will check that out. Thank you

well its under pressure, so it still could leak alot with not being tightened down all the way. thats the only part i can think of in that area that holds coolant.

yep, its your heater core... either tighten the clamps, or get ready for ripping it out.

How hard is the heater core to replace, b/c my vent smells like coolant when the a/c is on and the car runs hotter than it used to

i assume this is the heater core, but i ve only had one time when i found coolant on the pass. floorboard. could it just be loose hoses? i don't want to replace it if i don't have to
thanks for any help

Could be in the engine compartment too, and it's pulling the smell in thru the ventilation intake on the cowl. That happened in my 85 Z28. The seam on the side tank of the radiator split and would leak under about 13 PSI, so whenever the car heated up it would steam and leak antifreeze. That was a fun one to troubleshoot, because whenever I would stop and look for the leak, it would have stopped and all the antifreeze on the radiator was already evaporated, leaving only a puddle on the core support

Good luck,
Matt

I see your parting out a car too I need a console lid in very good condition for my 87 IROC. If you still have it send me an email to quiktrp@yahoo.com with price and condition.

Thanks

I have the same problem with coolant pooling in the passenger side floor when I run the A/C. The engine will heat up to 240 or better and then the leak happens. I will bypass the heater core and see if it still happens. If it doesn't then I will replace the heater core. Winter is just around the corner.
