Automatic Transmision Cooler
Automatic Transmision Cooler
I have a '91 Camaro w/ air conditionong. Where could I mount the cooler since I have an air condenser? What's the best kit to get that comes with all the barbed fittings?

*shrug*
to be honest, i dont recall what came with what.
i cut the stock line out from the trans on the frame rail near the radiator. did half a bubble flare on it and put a heavy duty hyd hose on it. clamped it. ran it to the cooler, then from the cooler i did the same thing to the other half of the line.

you dont have to. i would any way. just to keep junk out of there.
however, you should use both!
two reasons.
1. most coolers are add ons anyway. plus this way you can dissipate even extreme heat and improve the life of the trans.
2. there IS such a thing as too cold. running the stock cooler after the aftermarket will help to keep the fluid at a reasonable tempature range. even when its in the dead of winter.

i was under the impression that above 100 degrees is fine. Like the new owner's manuals for chevy trucks say the 4L60e should run between 100 and 250.
although I only run a tranny cooler not through the radiator....this car will never see temps below 60 or so anyways so it won't be a problem for me.

im just saying that in winter times, even in the south, running a big air cooled only setup can overcool it.... *shrug*
a temp gauge isnt a bad idea at all for it though.... esp if you arnt using the stock cooling.... why cant you use the stock cooler anyway?
