Lines to radiator stuck

I am trying to get my radiator out so I can pull my engine, but theses lines that are holding it in just wont budge.

As you can see I already twisted one out of shape, but these things are just stuck in there good.

What should I do?

whoops double post. Mods you can delete these from the general tech forum if you need to.

1 ( trans cooler line) is the one you need to worry about, although there is one just like it, about 14" strait below it, the other 2 (2 & 3), you can leave alone, those are for the A/C, they go the the condenser, in front of the rad, if the trans line(s) dont want to move or strip the hex, just use some vise grips(locking pliers) on them, they should come loose

soak with penetrating oil, sounds like oyuve already twisted at least one already, so probably too late, i would have just cut the line with tubing cutter and removed it that way and splice with 5/16" hose later on, you can get new 5/16" line at local parts store cheap though

good luck

You almost had a disaster if you removed 2&3! (thats if the A/C worked) but you should also use flare wrenches instead of a regular open ended wrench. And like FAST68 said used plenty of penetrating oil. AND... theres a number 4 its another line like number 1 under the lower rad hose....see it?

Nope... didnt see it. Thanks.

As for 2 and 3, the rest of the air conditioner is gone except for those lines, so freon spraying all over isn't an issue.

Well I should be able to get it now, thanks alot guys.

if the air conditioner is gone....might as well remove the "mini-radiator" in front of the radiator....that should describe it easily enough for ya.

That is called the A/C condenser and if all your freon is gone and you NEVER want A/C again RIP it out! But if you might want A/C again remove carefully.
But after you remove it you will have a large gap on either side of the radiator where air that would be cooling the radiator passes by; so make sure you seal it up. You can use thick rubber or foam sheeting and fabricate something.

YOu do not need to seal the space up, pull the ac condenser and put the rad back in position, if your rad is in good condition your car will be fine.My ac cond. has been removed for almost a year now, the space is still open and my car actually runs a little cooler. Also, even if you never want ac again DO NOT rip it out because you could damage the rad fins "ripping" the ac cond out, loosen the bolts holding the rad and push the rad forward, then(after cutting/removing the ac lines) pull up on the ac condenser after all the bolts are removed.

If you want MAXIMUM efficency seal up the sides if you want to run ghetto style leave it open.
(and for people who take things literally, you can not "RIP" the A/C condenser out. You have to unbolt as if you were going to remove it carefully, just writing expressively.)

RIp means rip, and if you rip it out you will damage the rad. If you want max air flow through the rad i guess you could seal up the space around it but its reallt pointless since even with the ac cond. in air still goes around it. Also i think a car looks more ghetto with FOAM or rubber around the rad then it would with the rad sitting nicely without some GHETTO crap around it.How many cars you see have crapy FOAM or rubber around the rad? Also the only air sealing off the sides would affect is air comming directly from the front and since cams and birds get 99% of their engine cooling air from under the front of the car there is really no point. ALso if a guy doesnt even know what an ac condenser is its pretty clear whoever is giving him directions should be clear as to how to remove it.(im not bad talking anyone here)

Why wouldn't you seal up the sides if 99% of the air is supposed to go through the radiator? Now with a large gap on either side you are loosing volumetric efficency because cooling air will escape around the sides.
Just simple science, perhaps somebody relating their expirence with a car that has a 2.8 V6 would realize a 5.0 V8 produces a lot more heat; but then again ignorance is bliss.
I guess people who live in a ghetto really know that foam looks ghetto, my bad.

uh try again wilber, a friend who has a 400 doesnt have the crappy foam either, or the ac cond. Unless you have a cooling problem or you like making your car look like sh*t their is no reason to seal anything up.But either way. Rednecks will be rednecks 5.0? wow i didnt know they made engines that big

I guess people who live in a ghetto really know that foam looks ghetto, my bad. And this was a nice way to post a reply? Dont tell me that there are nicer ways to express it when others do the same. My exp in life is you have to talk to a child like they are a child, so when i see someone who has child like mentality i respond back to a level that they can understand. Maybe you should read a few posts down and see when this started to be a back and forth thing. I simply posted that you dont need to seal the space up and not to "RIP" the ac cond out because you can damage the rad. SOMEONE responded with an attitude. Its back woods ******* mechanics with remarks like that that make people leave tgo like they are now.

Yes, I will no longer take part in "Ghetto" chat. And here is the correct spelling for Attitude.
