Coolant tank looks and sounds like a tea kettle

After driving normally, no speeding or wot, my coolant tank (overflow tank?) whisltes and boils extremely hot. I changed the thermostat, but nothing. Do you think a coolant flush, and a new water pump will fix the problem? I know my timing is like 4 degrees of, but I read on one of the forums thats good for 305tbi's. Anyone have anythoughts? Thanx

Does your fan turn on at all? If so could be water pump, thermosatat.

Also you should flush system, at least every 2 yrs. I do mine once a year.

I'm gonna flush it and check the fan relay tomorrow. Maybe my coolant mixture isn't 50/50. The fan should come on at 220 degrees or is it lower then that?

Its around that temp, the sensor that turns the fans on is on the passenger side of the block, below the heads, in between 6 adn 8 cylinder, if ya didnt know.

Also if you have your a/c on the fan should constantly run, check the fan motor that way.

Ok, found out my fan doesn't turn on. I took a test light and checked the connector to the fan....light doesn't come on. One of the wires near the battery (think it was the fusible link or something) was broken so I soldered it. Checked the connector again and still nothing. Does anyone now what I should check next? Oh yeah, I checked the fuse also, its fine.

I think that it will not have power until the relay turns it on, to test the fan motor take a peice of wire and wire it to the fan to the battery it should come one, of course ground hooked up as well. the sensor that turns it on triggers a ground that in turn makes the relay turn it on, or something like that, there is a way to wire up a switch without needing any fuses, anyways that wire runs all the way up to a relay right near the brake booster, tap into that wire to the switch, and run the other side of the switch to a ground.. i believe the wire is green with a black stripe

If you're not driving under freezing conditions, there's no need for a 50/50% coolant mix, in fact, less anti-freeze cools better!
A 20% mix is the way to go, that's 20% anti-freeze, mainly for it's anti-corrosion habbits, and 80% dist. water.
It's also worth considering using a bottle of Red Line Watter Wetter, makes the cooling effects even better.
For more explanation look at the Red Line web site and click on products, cooling and Water Wetter WWW.REDLINEOIL.COM
Good luck!

Well, I'm out of school until Tuesday so, I'll check the relay near the booster then. Thanx. I haven't flushed the system yet, so I don't know what my mixture is, but I'll keep what you said in mind. Thanx.
