yes, thats the airdam, or in dealer parlance, air deflector. that is the piece(s) you need to keep cool at hiway speeds. I dont know about the 84, but deflectors for later 3rd gens can be gotten at the dealer, and they are not any more expensive than aftermarket.

Car: Yes...
Engine: Last time I checked...
Transmission: See "Engine"...
Here's the part number and pricing from GMPartsDirect.com:
GM PART # 12395557
CATEGORY: Radiator Air Deflector/Baffle
PACK QTY: 1
CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $34.08
OUR PRICE: $20.11
DESCRIPTION: DEFLECTOR
It's worth noting that this revised GM design hangs lower than the original 2 piece unit that the '88 and earlier cars came with. If your car is lowered, the deflector will get beat up a bit. I recommend also buying a skid guard from Lon at TDS.
He made one for me and it has helped save the deflector when going up driveways ...etc.

Sorry, lost track for awhile there... I have a 180* t-stat, so when I was in city traffic, it would get to around 190-200*, but at hiway speeds it would start to actually overheat. After I got it fixed, I rarely got over 180-190*, even on these 90-100* days here in FL.
