is my car over cooling??

i just replaced the thermostat after it was over heating alot only to find it was all plugged up with a little bit of rusty crap (car sat for 2 years) so..now, with the new thermostat (195 just like the old one) it takes a wile to warm up..its about 30 degrees. before it didnt take awile at all. i let it warm up for about 3 mins. then i drove about a total of about 10 miles and it ran for about 20 something minutes. it only got to the last small line before the big quarter line. is it over cooling or am i used 2 the old one

Like V8 said, it's not overcooling. It's normal given the ambient temperatures. Everything is a bit colder so it just takes a bit longer for it to warm up, nothing much. My car does it to.

I have a similar issue. If I start my car and run it at like 1500-2000 rpm in the driveway for a few minutes, it warms up nicely. But that is the only way the car warms up to where the thermostat will open. Under normal driving conditions, the needle will never raise up above the first hash mark, yes the first hash. warming it up the way I mentioned earlier, the thermostat opens just after the 1/4 mark. And stabilizes there, never moving. My fan is on all the time and I am running a 180 stat. Could it be a bad sender or something? Thanks fellas, sorry to hi-jack this thread

Fix your fans.

Do you have dual fans or a single? If dual, which fan is on? It could be the A/C pressure swith, or it could be a bad fan switch...or someone hacked your fans before you bought the car.

My car takes a while to warm up. It's normal.

Edit: could be your relays too

some did hack my fans before I bought the car, because I only have one. I've not had the time to go in a repair what they did yet. I was waiting to find a nice set of dual fans and a decent shroud to go ahead and replace it all.

For the winter only I removed my air dam. When I start seeing temps in the 60z or low 70z I will reinstall........might try that.I also run 2 fan temp switches from painless 1 is on at 180 and off at 160 I think and1 is on at 195 and off at 175.This last one is the 1 I use for winter use.1 more thing is that I use a 160 t-stat

On a 730 ecm and datalogging right before the "quarter" mark that you are talking about its about 160-170*. The temp gauges on our cars are an optical illusion. The quater mark to the 220* mark is only about 50* difference. The 100* mark (1st) to the quarter mark is about a 70* difference hence the thought of overcooling. I always thought mine was overcooling until i hooked up my datalogger and found out. Next time if you pay attention it takes alot longer to get from the 100* mark to the quarter mark then it does to get from the quarter mark to the half way mark.

*note* you also have to factor in rising momentum.

I find a peice of card bord in frount of the radiator works good in the cold months if your car is not warming up fast enough for you.
