What is the highest flowing fan from the factory?
I am wanting to upgrade the fans on my car. Currently I have a dual fan setup from a Dodge Dynasty or Chrysler New Yorker. (can't remember which) Anyway, Since I am on a budget and I will be getting the fans from a salvage yard. What cars or trucks needed heavy duty fans to keep up. Someone mentioned a fan from a supercharged Cobra would flow alot of CFM. Anything else that is more easily acceptable?
I have two new GM fan motors and blade assemblies, the Y bracket for each fan, the straight piece along the bottom, and two new pigtail connectors that plug into the fans. You will have to buy a new upper shroud but they are like 25-30 bucks. No biggie. I can't rember for sure i'll have to check later tonight when i'm home but I think the two motors and blade assemblies were like 160 bucks. The Y pieces and lower mount and wiring harnesses were like 70 bucks. How about........150 for everything and you pay shipping. Keep in mind, these motors and fans are NEW GM pieces. VERY Good Condition.

I was having a problem with not enough moving through my radiator so I bought a Zirgo 3300 cfm fan from a guy on ebay who gets them directly from Zirgo. It only cost me $100 shipped and now my car stays between 200 and 210 even in the nasty hot and humid houston weather I drive in. Good Luck.

The highest flowing fan I found is the late 80's early 90's ford taururs 3.8 L dual speed fans. Its a shourded single fan, with a high and low speed, S curved blades, 3 heavy gauge wires coming off the motor.
If you need more info on it, do a search on turaus fan on www.hybirdz.org In the small block chevy v-8 swap form, and www.nastyz28.com in the engine and high performance forms. Some of the datsun Z car chevy v-8 swap guys has called it "the 44 mag of elec. fans"
Also look around the web for one of the mustang sites. I remember seeing a nice write up on swapping the turaus fan into a super charged mustang. It told all about the fan, and how to hook it up.
You can find these fans in just about any junk yard for $10-30 each. I bought 2 for under $25 at one junk yard. Both worked good. I got one on my 88 camaro now, and one as a spare.

94-6spd....
Going from the info I have. The plastic tank/alum core rad. in a 88 350 camaro is...
Core... 26.25" x 17.25"
And each tank is 2.5" x 18.75"
So total 31.25" wide, but only 26.25" wide core
The 2 speed taurus fan is about 22.50" x 17.75" x 5" (those are at the biggest points. Like the height, only 2 places, 1 above and 1 below fan blades are that size, rest of shroud is like 16.25" high)

So this fan would probably fit right? Night Rider327... Are you currently using one of these? I will probably go to the boneyard tomorrow. Thanks Night rider327.
Anyone know the dimensions of the Windstar fan?

Yeah I'm useing the tauraus fan on my 1988 camaro, with a built 355 sb, trapping at 118 mph, but only running 12.80's ET cause of traction. This also is my daily driver, go every where in car.
I didnt/dont have the stock rad. though. I had some kind of truck 3 core rad. but it was in pretty bad shape, so I just bought a summit 31" x 19" alum. rad.
mounting the fan is pretty easy. Put some foam hose door stick on weather stripping around the fan shroud. Lay fan on rad. Mark and Drill 4 holes in fan shround, and in the little lip that sticks up on the very top and bottom of rad. Then bolt in place. With my summit alum. rad. I had to make 4 little mounts to bolt the fan to the rad. I used 4 pc. of plumbers pipe strap (the metal kind with holes in it) Drilled 4 holes in the shroud, 4 holes in the lips on the rad. bolted the pipe strap to fan with bolts, lock washer and taps, the layed fan on rad. and bolted the other end of the pipe strap to the rad with bolts, lock washers and taps. Took all of maybe 30 min to mount the fan
My dad has the stock 1 row, plastic tanks/alum core rad. in his 84 camaro, now in his 82 firebird.
The taurus fan fits on his. I tried mine.
He's running a late 80's ford tempo elec 2 speed fan. It's the same fan as the turaus fan, but a diff size shroud.
He was looking for a taurus at the junkyard, and I guess he was just looking for late 80's/early 90's FWD ford cars with a fan with S curved blades, and 3 heavy gauge wires. He ended up with the tempo fan. We both put of ours side by side and the motors look the same, blows the same amount of air, etc
We both have ours wired of the same way. A on-off-on toggel switch. 10 ga. wire ran from toggel to batt +., 10 ga. wire ran from low speed wire to toggel, 10 ga. wire ran from high speed wire to toggel, 10 ga. wire ran from fan's ground wire to batt. ground.
In the winter time like no, we don't even cut the fan on for short 10 mile drives, but on a 30 mile drive about 20 miles or so out or if stopped for a long time we have to flip it on low.
During the summer, the fan is one low maybe 50% of the time, on high 5-10% of the time, and rest of the time off.

Thanks guys. I found a taurus fan for $45.00 today. I'd say it's worth that. Still may try to find a Windstar fan though and make it fit somehow.
