Since 220 is in the middle of the gauge,it cant be that bad.But 220 degrees is a pretty freakin hot temp. What is a "hot" temp? How hot untill head gaskets burn?

220 is not bad, but cooler is better.
Problems with heads and head gaskets begin when your coolant reaches boiling point. When you start getting steam pockets, you get uneven cooling. It's the hot spots from steam pockets that are bad for your motor. If you have a full radiator, coolant in good condition, a functional pressure cap, and no leaks, you're not in immediate danger until about 240 (some stock electric fans don't even kick on until 230 degrees).
