Air damns

do any of u know where i can buy an air damn. No i dont want to go to a junk yard and pull one off another ta, i would be willing to buy a brand new one that way i dont have to worry about cracks or other problems that u would have with a used one. i looked on this website and fbodymotorsports and still didnt find one, unless i just over looked it.

A GM dealer or Hawks are the only 2 places I know of to get a brand new air dam.

If it is for a bird, Year One sells them, if a camaro, try Ecklers.

Apparently there were two versions-short 1982-1986???
and a taller version for the later years .Taller is better, but sticks down lower.

I am in need of a new dam as well except most of the mounting places for the dam are broken off. Do I have to get all new front gfx for the dam to fit properly? Right now, it's zip tied to some of the holes and for some I had to make holes

Help with this is very much appreciated, seeing in how I don't think my current setup is working as my car usually sits at 100 most of the time. My fans do come on but only do so much and yesterday my SES light actually came on until I left the car for a few hours to cool off. Way too much heat stays under the hood of the the birds. Anyone know any ideas to disperse this heat? Or have any pics of their mods for this? Thanks!

The air dam on my '84 Z-28 HO simply bolted to the bottom of my lower rad support.Your '87 might have some additional ducting that mine doesn't have. However if I had to fab up something I'd probably go to a hardware store and buy some 1"x1" aluminum angle iron and bolt the air dam to that and the angle iron to the rad support.I bought my air dam from Paradise Alley in Toronto . By the way if anybody else parks your car, tell them to park it properly, not run it in until the curb hits the tires!

air dam

I tried to find one for my 84 ta and finally made one out of aluminum and polished it. Yeah steep drive ways are a pain in the ....... I just avoid them or the people behind me get a little upset but they will and do get over it. Car is black and rims are chrome , So i chose to kind of stay with look. No digital camera yet but in the plans for pics to post.

That's what I was thinking about doing, but how long you think thats gonna last after hitting a speed bump or someones driveway? Once it bends it's useless wouldn't you think? I'll have to come up with something, the dam I have now just wobbles back and forth once I start getting on the pedal. Does almost nothing.

The firebird air dam from Hawk's costs about $45 shipped. It's a three piece unit and is larger than the stock one my 85 came with.

Each side (wing) piece uses three mounting points on the gfx. My 85 TA was missing two of these mounting points for one side. I fashioned a brace between the wing piece and the new center section from some of the old airdam plastic and left over screws. The brace is behind the new airdam pieces with just the black screw heads showing. The wing piece is held by this brace and the one mounting screw in the gfx. It's pretty stout.

I'd recommend the Hawk's dam (actual GM product-supposedly installed by dealer after shipping).

See I would have already bought the air dam from whoever but you see, I'm in the same boat you were with the gfx completely missing where I need to bolt the dam too. This sucks!

I'll figure something out.

You've got no gfx? You can still bolt the center section in, but it won't look finished. I wouldn't spend the money on a new one just to install half of it. Check some junk yards for the center plastic piece. You may even find something on another car that will work with some minor fabbing, at a lot less than $45. Or find a replacement for your gfx...

See, I have the gfx on both sides and all the way around my car. It's the piece that holds the gfx thats torn to pieces. Right where the dam needs to bolt to the gfx, is gone. So if I was to get the new dam from GM, I would need the gfx pieces too. I've checked the local yards but they have nothing, but I'll go back this weekend. My buddy has a '85 bird dressed like a T/A, wonder if he has the dam still. Hmm...get back to you guys with this.

Mine Had Air Dam

Broken peices on the ground effect. I brough new side peices air dam that is. THen fiberglass a new section on to the gropund effects with refornced washers. Where the AIr dam would bolt into.

The fiber glass job under neather is not the greatest. But it holds the air Dam. Who is really going to see it. Mine is a daily driver.

I used long bolts with washers and self locking nuts. To finish the attaching it.

Just be careful how tight you make them or you could crack and brake the fiber glass.

Did this project about 6 months ago and still holding strong.

yeah steep inclines or curbs are a pain. Have had a couple scrapes already and didn't bend to bad. It is 3 pieces and the center piece is behind the outers and center is spring mounted for flexability. So far so good. Have extra metal just in case.
