Installing A/C Help

I have an 86 Z28 the once had air but someone took it out. Here's what I got. What parts do I need, how difficult is it to install and approx how much $ to get parts from the junkyard ? There's no need to buy brand new unit is there ? Heres some pics of what I have. I believe the a/c bolts on the passenger side not the driver side, but there seems to be some bracket or mount on the drivers side as well.

You will need the receiver/drier, compressor, new o-rings, orifice tube (filter), hoses, the hard line that goes from the condenser to the evaporator coil (rides along the pass frame rail), and the correct brackets for the compressor. My suggestion to you would be to find a car that has the entire accessory assembly intact and grab all the brackets and pulleys. This will insure that you will have no alignment problems with the belts. I would not use the junkyard compressor. You never know if the thing worked before it got to the boneyard. You will probably get away with re-using the hoses. You will definately have to get a new receiver/drier and orifice tube from any parts store. I would urge you to buy a NEW compressor. If you take your chance on a reman unit, they make horrible noises and never last more than a couple of years. At the very least get a rebuilt Delco unit.

Looks like it has been a while since it has been cleaned up. Make sure you have if flushed once or twice to clean out the gunk that has build up inside the parts over the years.

how do you flush the a/c system? im bout to charge mine up after not having anything for 3 years.

Any reputable shop can do it for you. And i think i meant orifice tube earlier. Most places just recommend putting in a liquid line filter. What i did was opened it up poured a whole some in a little at a time until i poured it all through and then shoved through with soem compressed air. I left my old dryer on. I had a bunch of black junk come out of it and took it to a shop and they said i did a pretty good job. So i thought that was good.

might look at getting a new condensor. chances are it has a hole in it. if it were me id hat to install everything only to find out that the condensor is busted. the condesor is the thing in front of the radiator(just in case you didnt know).
