Cooling Discuss all of the aspects of cooling that you can think of! Radiators, transmissions, electric fans, etc.

This was unusual but kind of funny.

This was unusual but kind of funny.

So i started leeking coolant out of the thermostat hosing and i knew it was the gasket so i went and got gasket and gasket sealter and i figured for 8 bucks id do the thermostat while im in there. so i pop it off and it dosent have any thermostat in it at all. Suprised me because i never had temp. difficulty or anything. Just somthing weird i thoughti would throw up here.

Not having a thermostat means your coolant is always flowing, it just takes longer for your car to heat up.

Without a thermostat in your car you change the pressure the system runs under, it can actually cause your car to overheat. This happened to an 86 Pontiac I had. With no thermostat the system didn't hold pressure and boiled over without being technically overheated, got a hot spot in the head and warped a valve.
